I got lucky with some tapping and boiling water (after a long drive) took a while, got the shaft out now need to make it spotless before I try to engage it. Thanks a lot. I think i'll keep her!

You did all that and he never thanked you?? Is he still your friend? That sounds quite extereme. What about removing the inspection cover and trying to get a drift in there on the end of the offending shaft and knocking it back?

Yes tried that, it's MOTed and drives perfectly. My last attempt as after a 2 mile drive. I'm actually tinking of selling her so I'd really like to sell it in full working order.
