Make sure no oil dripped onto your alternator if it’s a TD4!!! (I place a plastic bag over it, because oil in the alternator is a sure fire way to kill it).

I’m pleased for you. It’s called an adventure ✌🏻

I have some old 6 sided metric ring spanners, make? Chrome Vanadium 🤣 (from where I have no idea but probably the tool shop in Yeovil in the 80’s - spent a fortune in there on strange tools 😬)

Crow foot rings, stubbies... you name it, I have the works here. But this week was the first time I wondered what the tolerances are on these sockets and spanners of varies makes. All my Snap-on stuff is imperial from Concorde and Vulcan days, they get used on my MTD lawn tractor V-Twin...

Everything is metric in my experience on my TD4 FL1 Facelift 2005 LHD.
This week I discovered that draper tools and a mix of other spanners were too "loose" on the 10mm anti-roll bar bush retaining bracket screws. I finally tried a Wurth set of sockets (that I picked up as an emergency last...

If you can feel the vibration through the gear lever, the closest bearings are those that are either side of the VCU. Mine did exactly as you said while I was touring around in Austria and beyond last year. I managed a few thousand km's to west coast France and back, twice. I guess I managed...

Today’s 15 minute job…. Oil and filter plus airfilter. Total time? Fecking hours. A mouse had created a love nest in the area around the injectors 😡. Noticed vacuum hoses had chafed through in the injector region, replaced them all.
Got around to the oil filter to find what had been fitted...

Fitted new Moog front roll bar bushes and HD drop links. Time elapsed? 15 minutes a drop link, 30 minutes cleaning and fitting the bushes. Oh forgot, an HOUR to get ONE of the 10mm bush retainer screws out of the subframe!! Another 5 minute job 😡
Test drive was bliss. No squeaks or rattles...

Ah, thanks. Unfortunately I shall be back in the Balkans or thereabouts in July thru' late September.

Is the engine timing okay? Has the timing chain and its tension been compromised by the 140K oil change interval? My furtive imagination saying the crank is being sensed at a position such that the injected fuel is not being able to be delivered by the ECU at the phased delivery point since...

Ordered 6 litres of Mannol 5W-40 ceramic life extension oil and filters. Interested to see if the engine "feels" or sounds different (TD4, 325,000 km). Used BMW longlife last time and I got 875km on a tankful and no low fuel light!

I have a similar unit on my tractor and have carefully pulled, no snatch, in excess of 3 tonnes. I wouldn’t do that regularly or trust it’s fatigue life but for usual use, I reckon it’s fine on a hippo.
Edit: I just checked a number of references and your arrangements is EU approved and is...

I am very pleased to hear you got it done and 2.5 hours! Well done.

Just to update those taking interest, I removed the fault codes and recalibrated the gyro, having remade the connection next to the handbrake. Today I’ve started the vehicle twice and driven 10 miles each time on a mix of rough dirt terrain (I’m living in a remote place) to public roads of mixed...

I wish I could be more certain, but I am certain that they didn`t bleed the brakes or top up fluid so I presume the brake line was not touched. They did have to gently strain this and that and I saw reasonable use of the polythene faced mallet at one point. They faffed around to get...
