So the two options I got are: to top up the fluid and cracked piston. Why do you consider this piston to be a quick patch up job? Is it so easy? If it is , i might give it a go myself under a proper guidance of course as I dont want to hurt my beloved landy neither my already empty wallet. Any...

Hi Nodge68 and davidsmith1307,
The IRD is still out and we haven`t put it back in as I am still thinking what is best to do next. I might have to take the gearbox out. Compatible fluid was used when the tranny was reconditioned last year. Since then I have not driven it much , no more than...

Hello to all.
I have been having this issue described in the title for several weeks but I stopped driving the car the first time i heard that whining noise ( or something close to a whine, I am not sure how to describe that noise but it is present.). I suspected the IRD and I took it of 3...

Sorry to resurect this old thread but i am suffering the same issue you are having Angeloc. I am beating my brains silly with this exact same issue for an year and a half now. I have Freelander td4 auto 2002 and had the car examined by several guys. One stated it was a torque converter so i got...

Hi htr,
I agree about the short lasting effect that the taping is gonna have but the issue is clearly not from the tie rod. This quick fix /sort of speak/ was done only to isolate the issue and perhaps to pin point what was doing that noise. I failed in that endeavor and once again I am...

Nope. No luck. It is still there and it is as irritating as before. But there is some hope. I have located it somewhere in the rh front part. I suspect the rh axle drive assembly but I need some one with more experience than me to give me his/her opinion first then to act on it.
So...

I `ll be damn. Maybe the tie rod was the cause. I am a little cautions though. So far so good. :) There is no popping sound.
Today my landy will be put through its passes as I will be going out of town and I am going to push her.
I will let you know of the results. :)
Cheers :)

Sorry for the delayed update on the case :o. What I did is to check the condition of the lower engine tie rod bushes and I have found as i previously suspected , a lot of wiggle/play in the big bush. Big enough play that I can pop it out very easily. So as to minimize that play I have wound a...

peterb107 I have probably the same issue and I am wondering how to fix it. Please let us know how did your friend`s mechanic do on the matter and what did he find. I changed all bushes in the front , drop links, both front axle drives with aftermarket ones (allmakes 4x4) and I dont know if...

Thanks for the replies. I will check all the suggested items as soon as possible. I have been reading about those notorious rear diff mounts on freelanders but never actually inspected them on mine. I will give em a thorough look at the end of this weekend.
I keep thinking about those front...

Thanks for the reply. I have sorted it out. It was a boost hose. The one going to the EGR valve( or in my case the egr blanking kit).
