Freelander 1 Help again! Dash removal and beyond! SOLVED

So, all soldered up and back together. You can imagine my disappointment when the three amigos remained on the dash! I drove it 10 yards, stood on the brakes and they went off! Hopefully that's the end of it, I do not want to take the dash out ever again, it's taken years off my life. As always...

Freelander 1 Help again! Dash removal and beyond! SOLVED

It has been raining here for the last few days, so no progress, I'll let you know how I get on. I don't want to disturb the A/C if I can help it, I think I'll cut and solder the damaged wires under the bonnet and pass them through the bulkhead.

Freelander 1 Help again! Dash removal and beyond! SOLVED

Cheers. I think I had resigned myself to that being my my only option. The thin wires of the loom, are they 0.5mm squared do you know?

Freelander 1 Help again! Dash removal and beyond! SOLVED

I feel like I've done most of the hard work, only to fall at the final hurdle! I'm going to struggle to find someone to come to the house to de-gas the A/C, I'm very rural and of course the car can't be driven now. I'm not sure what to do next!!

Freelander 1 Help again! Dash removal and beyond! SOLVED

I can see where the A/C pipes come through the bulkhead and enter the black plastic housing in the footwell. I just wondered if I split the housing, various 6mm screws and a couple of 10mm bolts, is it possible to at least remove the top of the housing so I have room? I have unclipped the...

Freelander 1 Help again! Dash removal and beyond! SOLVED

I was pretty proud of myself today, dash removed from the car with only a small-ish amount of pratting about and not too much swearing! However, it is still impossible to reach the chewed bits of the loom I need to repair. Car is LHD, so the A/C evaporator and big black plastic housing are in...

Freelander 1 Help! - Dash removal - Solved

I've sorted it! Thanks for all the advice. It had frustrated me so much this afternoon, I've just been out with a head torch for another look. Think it was a case of brute force and ignorance! The assembly needs to be turned about 45° clockwise before it will slide off. Back to it tomorrow, no...

Freelander 1 Help! - Dash removal - Solved

Cheers Andy. The lugs sit on top of the steering column to stop it slipping further down the column. As far as I can tell, below those lugs, the assembly is a smooth sided cylinder which should just slide on and off the column. I could be wrong though, it's not easy to make it out in photos I've...

Freelander 1 Help! - Dash removal - Solved

That's a good suggestion. If I can remove both stalks, I might have enough room to slide the dash over the steering column. I'll have a look tomorrow. I just can't get my head round why the whole assembly won't slide off the column! I've spent far too much time trying to sort it this afternoon!

Freelander 1 Help! - Dash removal - Solved

Hi again. 2004 TD4. Decided to start on the dash removal today so I can get to repair the damaged loom. Everything was going well but I seem to have a problem I don't know how to resolve. After removing the drivers airbag and rotary coupler, next step is to slacken the clamp screw and remove the...

    Freelander 1 2004 TD4 - Loom damage

Hi again. Following on from my previous post about rats having been in the car while we were away, I think I have found the damage. Bear in mind this is a LHD car. It appears that 5 or 6 wires in the loom have been chewed which is causing my 3 amigos problem. The location of the damage is on the...

    Freelander 1 Diagnostic

I also think I must be the most stupid man in the world. We spent 3 weeks in the UK and I could have easily bought a pscan diagnostic tool, but if I buy it now, in Spain, it will cost me 30% more, in import duty and VAT. Thank you Brexit. Might have to be iCarsoft.

    Freelander 1 Td4 Rat ****!

Hi again, before I start, I would like to say I appreciate all the help the people on this forum have given me previously. Here we go, excuse me for the long winded rambling. We live in rural Spain and a few years ago, on a family visit to the UK, an extraordinary hail storm made a mess of my...
