2007 Disco 3 cracked oil casing at 35,000 miles

Hi all, I have just had the 7 year cam belt change and discovered that the oil casing was badly cracked and near to failure. This would have destroyed the engine methinks! Might be a good idea to fit the new design casing if you have an affected vehicle. some pics are here.... DISCO3.CO.UK...

TD5 (2004) starter will not operate...

Thanks for the tip ref the solenoid! I decided to have a look at the connections and simply pulling the small black connector off and then back on again solved the problem! I have cleaned up the connection and all is well now. I guess the "delay" in the starter operating was due to the poor...

TD5 (2004) starter will not operate...

Hmmmm... bit weird. I have just connected (with jumper leads) the tractor battery to the Disco and it started! I have re-checked the Disco battery and the voltage seems ok - maybe a bit low. I guess a new battery is the next step but I thought the engine would at least turn over a bit with a...

TD5 (2004) starter will not operate...

Hi all, my Disco 2, TD5 will not start. I have noticed that when the ignition key is turned to "start" there is a slight (1 second) delay before the starter motor starts to turn. It has been this way for some time and I assumed this was normal. It started fine after the "delay" until today...

    TD5 gearbox stiff

I know this is an old thread but I have had similar problems with my high mileage D2 TD5 (2004)...... I have worked on cars all my life and this problem (stiff gear selection when cold) was driving me crazy! It also developed a slight clutch judder and was very annoying. Anyway after much...

    TD5, harsh at around 3000rpm

Hi Bill, Sorry to hear that the new mounts did not make much improvement! What a pain..... I have a feeling that the TD5 engine is fundamentally unbalanced - I guess 5 cylinders does not help. One other small thing... I noticed that the acoustic cover on the engine was missing the drivers...

the clonk N' Stutter.. its a new disco craze?

Sounds like it could be crap in the fuel system... LPG systems are very prone to clogging up because a lot of LPG is full of muck - especially if you are unlucky enough to fill up when the garages tank is nearly empty.. all the sludge is at the bottom. I had similar problems with my LPG...

    TD5 owners in France

I used to get bespoke suits but the off the shelf stuff got so good I stopped paying the ridicules amounts that tailors wanted.... bit the same with re-maps... there are only so many things that can be tinkered with and if your engine is in reasonable fettle a standard re- map will be more than...

Harsh / rough engine above 2500 rpm in all gears - is it normal?

Re-mapping is now complete - a nice guy from Dynachip (Mike) - he races Defenders and is very knowledgeable ref all things Landrover. The car is truly transformed. It pulls like a train and it is well worth £225! He was good enough to check all the diagnostics - he had the Landrover main...

    TD5, harsh at around 3000rpm

I too was on the verge of getting rid - but I had spent too much time and money on it to give up! Anyway it really is very acceptable now with the new engine and gearbox mounts.. mine has done 116,000 miles and the rubber was shot... Engine mounts made the biggest difference of all the jobs I...

Harsh / rough engine above 2500 rpm in all gears - is it normal?

Hi, Its had a hard life i think - 118,000 miles now.... when I bought it last month it was good to look at but "dog rough" to drive - despite its brand new engine.... The bits and pieces I have done seem to have sorted it out now, so I am quite pleased with it. I have bought some Waxoyl to...

Harsh / rough engine above 2500 rpm in all gears - is it normal?

Hi Dave, Got the bits from Rimmers i think - I will fish the boxes out of the bin and post the details tomorrow.... when I rang they new exactly what I wanted..no problem... I bought genuine LR parts by the way! ps - its running so much better now.. its like a different car. I am a bit of a...

    low resonant rumble

I had the same problem - pretty much exactly..... and it was caused by the tyres. All 4 had to be replaced and all noise disappeared. A tyre specialist said is was quite common and that the noise came from the tyre walls as they flexed. I noticed it got a lot worse when I loaded a huge...
