thanks for the replies james. the rest of the gearbox seems fine with no other bits found in the bottom of it. do you know what causes this to happen and do you know how much of the box you have to take to bits to replace the shaft. cheers john

The bottom shaft has broken in the bit below gear lever, its gone where at oil ump bearing and where it goes into front part of box. cheers john

hello all hope somone can put me in the right direction before I go mad stripping it down. Got a 51 TD5 which was going down the road slowly in 5 then jumped out of gear with a funny noise, all other gears seem ok apart from no 5 or reverse. anyone know what the problem is or could be? cheers...
