the other day driving along all of a sudden got a vibration from the rear near side wheel got out and it was very hot, any way gone towed home. Stopped it down and looks like the hand bake mechanism has seized on that side. Ordered new discs pads and shoes, fitted the handbrake shoes and put the disc back on but can't turn it forwa dos but it will go backwards but is tight. Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks john

I had the same on my D3 one side easy and one side right git, cant remember what I did but Im sure it was along the lines of fcuk it that will do and tortured them a bit up and down the road and they have been fine since, stripped down 12mths later for a look see and all still good.
If you have an IID tool apparently you can set the epb to demount mode and that makes it much easier to fit the hew shoes, I didnt find this out until after I had done the job!

Nope just used them, was never convinced about the so called bedding in process, might work if you have a binder and want to knock the edges off.
The main problem I see with the so called bedding in process is when you apply the handbrake when moving I think it also applies the main brakes so could never see how it actually worked.

also didn’t realise whilst doing 50-60 mph u can use the EPB as an emergency brake

Worth a try its quite impressive

did u try it at motorway speeds , it’s just remembering it’s there for an emergency

will be interesting to know what the differences in stopping distance ie, doing it via the pedal or EPB ,

No only down my road so low speed.

must admit i wouldn’t fancy using the epb at any speed , lol

do u think it pulled u up quicker considerably quicker vs stamping on the brakes plse

It was pretty rapid as I would guess it sees pulling the switch whilst on the move that a serious issue has occured so need to stop the car asap.
