Freelander 1 L-Series running fault. Now with specific quandary!

Quick report back. Fixed it! The garage that did the previous work made a schoolboy error. Old people like me know o-rings tend to like a bit of lube and you can't expect to push a tight fitting crankshaft sensor into its hole without a liberal application of vaseline... Fully inserted...

No, surprisingly the MIL isn't on (and yes it does have a working bulb ;)) However, the rest of that makes interesting reading...

Freelander 1 L-Series running fault. Now with specific quandary!

Does anyone know how to reliably test the PIP sensor on injector 1?

Freelander 1 L-Series running fault. Now with specific quandary!

You guys would know better than me, but I thought that rather than a cam sensor, the PIP on injector 1 was compared with crank to control timing of injection. I hadn't even considered the existence of a cam sensor (being that the L-series is a touch old and agricultural)... I was also informed...

I don't know if the cps is o/e or Chinese, but valid point. I'll try and get it out and check! Thanks! He doesn't recall whether that problem was there before. (He's in his 70's).

Freelander 1 L-Series running fault. Now with specific quandary!

I've now comprehensively searched the forum about the Rev counter issue and can't find an answer. If anyone could suggest why the Rev counter doesn't register until the RPM is built up to 2k+-ish, this is also the same point the engine runs right? I know the counter runs off the cps but that...

Freelander 1 L-Series running fault. Now with specific quandary!

Glow plugs & relay all good and compression checked OK. It's the Rev counter issue that's throwing me, it's clearly linked but I can't see how.

Freelander 1 L-Series running fault. Now with specific quandary!

I appreciate there are a lot of threads about starting and running issues for the L-series, I've exhausted them all, I really have! Hence, I appreciate any help anyone can offer!!! The car is a '98 Freelander TDI L-series. It belongs to a friend. When he started having trouble starting it he...

Popping out from behind the sofa.

Over the past 3 years I've popped in and out. Firstly when I had my S3 Lightweight and more recently trying to sort out a friends Freelander that a garage gave up on. I use a lot of various forums and tend not to stick my nose in until I feel I have something to give! Invariably, posting...
