Mine had the same symptoms and I replaced the VCU before it did in the IRD
No more squealing from the tyres all good

Your VCU has seized up and needs replaceing hence the reason why the other guy removed The driive shaft

Hi check the regulator electrics even if it is new.Get another one on loan and try it.I put anew one on my freelander and it was faulty.

The windscreen should be sitting on a rubber block and in turn on a metal tab

With a good or new vcu in my experience there there is always a
detectable amount of resistance on full lock in reverse in neutral.
it is as if the hand brake is slightly on.Hope this helps

Check the slave cylinder mounting bracket is not loose or bent.This can be an issue with
with freelanders.

I read in a magazine that the earlier IRD at 100 kph in 5th gear did 3150 rpm,and the later 2700 rpm.I do not know if this applies to a manual or a auto.I Have a Xedi year 2000 with a later IRD replacement and in 5th it revs at 2700.IT is a manual
