You tried bicarbonate of soda. I use it. I’ve got old 58 pattern water bottles, been using em for 35 years. Bit worried about the old plastic having a dodgy Chemical in it.
That looks like a chafer beetle. They lay loads of eggs in grass and the grubs destroy the roots, ruins lawns. Took me a few years to get rid of them here and get the grass back into condition.
Sadly not the access to the back garden is the 3'6" path down the side of the house.

They is plastic cups which hold 500ml. Got about 10 from sainsberrys near 20 years ago. Logical fing would be to change to glass. Me pipes were lead and water contamination were high enuff to taste. Running the tap cleared it but water standing...

Maybe go to ornery porcelain or china ones then. We take glasses of water to bed with us, just use a drink mat on top of the bedside cabinet to not damage the surface.
