Yeah the lack of power thing was one thing that was swaying me towards the manual. I have a '73 Rangie Classic as well so the clutch effort thing is not a major concern.

I thought it locked at a certain speed as well. in my mind though UAto and performance don't belong in the same sentence. That is why I will be searching soon for a Manual P38 Diesel - preferably in black with black leather.:)

That's something I was wondering about myself. There doesn't seem to be a lot of discussion on this in the Land Rover forums. I haven't looked at any of the BMW forums though.

Thanks for the info folks. I'm in Ireland (roads are much worse over here than in the UK) so definitely was not going to consider anything more than 18" but I might just stick to 16's.
