I went to take the cable off today and low and behold the spring cable looks ok
it was not like that yesterday
maybe driving it around and usung the handbrake sorted it out
or maybe working in the rain as not the best think to do

this cabe the number is on a yellow tag that is...

yes there is a clip in the middle that holds the spring cable in place
from that clip to the lever on the shoe the spring cable is straight
but where it comes through the backplate to the middle of the clip the spring cable bends down then up its like a u bend
-
G
It may reduce but it is only small amout
where the cable enters the backplate, till it gets to the shoe lever needs to be fairly tought so when you apply the handbrake it directly pulls the lever
in my case because the spring with the wire in bends down then up then accross to the lever
when i...

No the free length of the spring remains the same only gets shorter when pulling the handbrake up
the free length of the cable spring is longer than the one I took out

The lowest reading so far is 20 lb/foot my reading was 75 lb/ft
and you have got a new vcu and it does not turn at 160 lb/ft
sounds like something wrong with that
when you apply the tourqe you are not looking to turn the wheel very fast
it will move at a snails pace

If you have read the previous posts 140NM is the highest we have had so far
Not sure if this means its on its way out we need more tests done by others to determine this
I never took my fl for a drive first before I made the test
might make the test worse by warming the vcu up
Does your fl...

G
yes sounds like the vcu do the test to see how much torque is required to turn the hub (vcu)
if your fl rolls back a touch after stopping it could be very tight and past its sell by date
-
G
You know you cant get enough of it
Another great set of results we have a range now of 28NM to 125NM
if you where to do a direct reading from the prop perhaps you could have turned the vcu at about 12lb/ft
Going on your results
You have confirmed what I have said in one of my previous post...

Great results
Shows a big difference on my freelander which has done 82k miles and is 9 years old
And the torque lowest torque setting I could get the wheel (vcu) to turn was 75lb/ft
So I wonder what the torque would be, when we could say the vcu is past its sell buy date

The best oil to use on your bumpers is olive oil does a great job

Vcu torque test results
What I did
Chock front wheels
Hand brake off
In first gear
Jacked off side rear wheel up
Take centre cap of wheel
Set my torque wrench to 300Nm with 32mm socket on the end
Placed on hub nut and turned wheel (wheel and vcu turned ok)
Tried 200Nm wheel and vcu turned ok
The...

I have got these values out of my haynes manual is states
Driveshaft nut tightening torque 400NM or 295 lbf/ft I have checked this it is right this applies to front and rear
210nm is only about 155lbf/ft the driveshaft nut is torqued tighter than that
