    Series 3 A worthwhile runaround?

Can the fella send you some more pics, of the important bits? It's obviously not been on the road in regular use, so may not have been maintained well. I would pay extra for bullet holes though.

Series 3 Heater box removal and spinning nuts

Thanks for the replies - they appear loose, ie not clamping the parts, but I still can't get them to screw out. I will increase the brute force until something gives...

Series 3 Heater box removal and spinning nuts

Easy job I thought - remove the heater box and blower. The 2 main bolts into the bulkhead are just spinning the nuts on the inside; I assume they are press fitted from new, because they can't be accessed from behind the dash. Do I need to grind them off or has anyone got a clever tip to...

    Gearbox oil changes

I've had plenty of gear oil in what's left of my hair as well as all over the drive. Having plenty of rags available helps, sheets , and a drive I don't care about. I had very black oil from the main box last year, and some "bits" and then soon after a new / refurbished gearbox. Earlier this...

Series 2 Re-painted my wheels yesterday

That looks really good. I was lying awake this morning thinking of painting wheels, but should probably sort the important stuff first.....

Series 3 Perkins 4.203 fuel system bleeding issues

Started the b@stard! Persistence is the key, and belief it will start eventually - you start to think something else must have failed when it cranks for so long without so much as a cough. Thanks again Steve; I went round the loop a few more times, even though I never saw any air bleeding out...

Series 3 Perkins 4.203 fuel system bleeding issues

Cheers Steve, I had not seen that post. I had bled at the banjo on top of the filter earlier, but will try taking it off and cleaning it - it is hiding under the exhaust manifold....

Series 3 Perkins 4.203 fuel system bleeding issues

Hello - I am at my wits end trying to start the engine after cleaning out the glass filter bowl. If anyone has experience bleeding a diesel, esp a perkins , any tips would be really appreciated. What I did: After running fine yesterday, I cleaned out the glass fuel bowl, bled some fuel...

White smoke from cold 2.25 Diesel

If it is truly OK once warmed up, them maybe not something to be too concerned about? When cold it is understandable that there will be some unburnt fuel - but I don't know what is normal for those engines. Mine (perkins) produces huge white smoke on cold start, which mostly goes away, but...

Trivial question - Nylocs vs spring washers

Split washers are designed to "dig in" when unscrewing, but if you have them torqued down flat, the edge has gone anyway. So in theory they don't protect so well initially. I thought nylocs could be used more than once, but it makes sense they just won't be as good second time around. I...

Comparing my Series III to the New Defender

I love the simplicity too, which is lost on any modern car. That's not to say I don't like a modern car, and after owning a series I have a new found appreciation of my daily driver - eg when it starts and drives every time , and the door doesn't incessantly pop open.

Series 3 changing back from diesel to petrol

I wish I had bought a petrol one in the first place, so I'd do it if I were you, and if time and money were not an issue. In mine, the diesel noise I can just about put up with, but the fumes are quite offensive - I notice people really hold back when travelling behind to avoid being gassed...

    Series 3 Ex Military 109

Your 9 year old daughter is old enough to drive it now! My son is 15 and I've told him he can have it to learn in, if he can drive it. I think I'm pretty safe.

Series 3 Play on splines. Change the half shaft?

£220 for a rebuild kit sounds pretty good value and it seems many parts are still available, often from tractor spares places since they were fitted to Massey tractors I think. The fuel pump on mine suggests it is a 1970 or 71.

Series 3 Play on splines. Change the half shaft?

I think mine has had a Perkins for most of its life too; the only thing I don't like is the stink, and on a cold morning the white smoke is something else. It must be a bit worn, but it works well and doesn't need an MOT!
