    Pinking

When timing, you need to take out plug 1 and feel for when the piston is at tdc, use a screwdriver or something. Then verify the pulley marks. With the vacuum advance no longer being used and set to 12-14 btdc you want to aim that the weights bring full advance in about 3000rpm. If you need...

    Pinking

I've got a 3.5 v8 in my series 2 with a single webber. I've done a bit of research on other forums dedicated to the v8 in kit cars and what I found to be the norm was to blank off the vacuum advance altogether and run it at 12-14 btdc. From factory the rover v8 vacuum advance device was too weak...

Tis true that, the spring kit should help bring more advanced as well as the revs rise so I won't have to go to far with the static.

Got freewheeling hubs, kenlowe fan and tall tyres. It's a rangey v8 afaik with a single down draft Webber carb, I recently fitted a new cloyes duplex timing chain that has standard or 2 degrees advanced/retarded options for cam and I advanced the cam timing for better torque. Blanked off the...

I'm driving between Skegness and Spalding quite a bit and just worked out I'm getting 25mpg. I'm happy considering its a series IIa 88 with a 3.5 v8 :)

I plan to carpet it all eventually, it's also a **** load quieter too. I finish my work away from home in Sept so should miss the real cold nights. But I'm enjoying it tho, after spending the week in the hammock a real bed isn't comfy enough!

Lined the interior cab with foil'd bubble wrap insulation from homebase the other week in prep for when I'm sleeping in the back away from home for work. Now a lot warmer at night and no longer get condensation all over cab - big improvement. Also fitted a fridge and leisure battery with a...

Removed and blocked the vacuum advance and re timed to 14 btdc. Just need to order some new dizzy springs from real steel and should be well sorted. Engine already runs so much better. Even the exhaust note is better

Took the timing cover off ready to fit the new cloyes duplex timing set tomorrow afternoon. Going to give the front cover a bit of a clean whilst I'm at it. Think the old chain is a bit past it, fair bit of slack in it. Will compare with new FireWire when I've got it off.

Sorting the breathing out on the v8, rear crank and rocker breathers just went to atmosphere through open pipes. Now got a filter on the the rear crank breather and rockers now breathe through inlet manifold. Will be drilling rocker inlet's bigger soon and fitting another couple of the mini...

Ordered a head gasket set for the v8 today. Last time I did a head gasket was on the vw Borat and that cost nearly £80 from the main stealers. This one an extortion at £18.00! :-)
