    Tyre Pressures and Towing

Definetly a good thing to up the rear tyre pressure for safety reasons when towing a caravan. With the extra weight of the caravan the rear end will be prone to swaying if the pressure is too low. I was too lazy to up the pressure on one occasion and nearly lost control going down a long steep...

What about uneven rear wear on tyres......

    Clutch Replacement

The plastic panel is rivited to a frame. This entire unerbody frame can be removed.... I think 4 bolts at the rear and two or four in front by the bumper, plus a couple of screws by the bumper. Not a big job, if memory serevs me correct (removed mine about 4 years ago). Rave manual explains it well.

    Too hot to tow?

I had the same issue when towing a caravan with a L-series (900 kg). If aircon is on it makes matters much worse. It was in the heat of summer as well (38 to 42 degrees C). Also, I was advised to never tow in 5th by a Landy independant specialist. I have narrowed it down to either the thermostat...

    cold start problem

Are you sure your glowplugs are actually getting power. I have heard that sometimes the relay gives a problem and although the light comes on on the dash, they get no power. I tested mine by connecting a small light to the glow plug, and to earth. When I turn the key the light comes on, and...

    She's gone..........

Dissapointingly the RAV is only rated to tow a max. of 500kg..... that is where I will miss the Feelander's tow rating of 1800 kg I think it was. I will still take an active interest in this site... I have Landrover blood in me. Who knows, maybe done the line I will pick up a good TD4 at an...

    She's gone..........

Sold my 2000 Xedi to a friend/collegue... hope it does not come back to haunt me. Sad to see it go. My daughter is relocating to Maylasia and has left us her Toyota RAV 2.2D - the missus will use it. I also recently purchased a Mazda 4 x 4 double cab for some serious off the beaten...

L-Series idling too fast at times

He ended up cleaning all connectors etc. and it is still running fine after a few days. Could not pinpoint the problem to anything specific.

    mechanical rattle in 5th gear

I got a diesel L-series and have a similar noise under 2000 rpm. A friend also has a diesel L-series and has the same noise under load. We have it in both 4th and 5th gear. I have heard a few complaints of this nature and no solution. A theory put forward is that it is the IRD rattling....... I...

L-Series idling too fast at times

Freelander is back on the road again, but still has the problem iddling intermittently. When the problem occurs a fault light on the dash lights up, and goes off again. Today it is running fine. Tomorrow he is going to check the sensors (CPS, MAF, TPS and MAP).

L-Series idling too fast at times

I agree with you....pump is last thing I would have touched. I will hear on Monday what the outcome was. I drove past the mechanic's house this afternoon and see the Landy was parked in the street... so it must be running again. Later it was gone, so he must have delivered it to my foriend who...

L-Series idling too fast at times

Thanks Darmain. I was inclined to think maybe the CPS. Rave talk about if this sensor is faulty the ECM uses the signals from the needle lift sensor. This results in loss of performance and increased iddling speed according to Rave (page 313). His performance is not as good as my L-series by...

L-Series idling too fast at times

 A friend has a 1998 L-Series. On occasion it will idle at 2000 rpm and then return to normal. When changing gear the revs drop to 2000 rpm and no lower. This problem is intermittent. May be ok for a day or two, then it starts again. Any pointers as to what may be the culprit? Could it...
