    Electric fuel pump or not

The first electric pump I fitted was a cheap one, like a square Facet, but not... It leaked within a few weeks of fitting. The Facets aren't that much dearer (unless things have changed) and IMO are worth the extra.

    Series 2 Roamerdrive

It does have a filler bung on the side, you fill it via that and then that same reserve is kept topped up by splash. Nothing to stop you checking level through the filler bung if you want to. The overdrive holds half a litre and there is a drain plug fitted as well.

    Anyone fitted this part?

As the bishop said to the actress...

    Series 2 Roamerdrive

They are an easy fit, just follow the destructions to the letter. One thing: I'm not sure if this is mentioned in the destructions but in case it isn't: there is a little steel band/ring over the gearchange nubbin on the back of the unit. Whatever you do, leave that (wired on?) ring on until the...

    Rear axle remote breather

Mine's a 109 FFR and the pipes go into the chassis.

    Back at it at last.

Just wondering if a piston hit an inlet valve and bent it very slightly. Happened to me when the timing belt gave out prematurely on my old Fiesta diesel. I wouldn't have noticed except the valve wouldn't grind in properly only touching down on the seat half way round. You couldn't see any...

    Performance petrol filter

Col So what you have is a military tank with under-seat filler cap? Last time I had to clean a tank in-situ I flushed it with water using a power washer and used a wet/dry vacuum cleaner to get most of the wet out, there were no fumes to worry about, the hot air blower soon took care of any...

    Performance petrol filter

Had this same problem a few times over many years. My first thought was an in-line filter with transparent body and paper element as has already been suggested, change the filter as often as necessary... Having said that, it seem you have quite a big contamination problem on your hands and I...

Series 3 wiper motor brushes , can I make my own ?

We used to grind them down to size with the bench grinder if the need arose. They are only made from carbon.

    Brake servo test.

Petrols don't need or have a vacuum reservoir, the vac pipe goes direct to the inlet manifold just below the carb. 2.25 diesels have the vac pipe to the far end of the inlet manifold just behind a butterfly valve which is closed when the engine is idling, this causes vacuum in the manifold. When...

    Brake servo test.

I fitted a new servo to mine a few years ago, (Britpart) the improvement to braking was significant but when I did the test I couldn't detect any pedal drop at all. However, the better braking was undeniable. I reckon Rob is right, an upgrade to a bigger servo is the way to go if you can afford...

Ex Military Petrol Engine - What's it worth.

So many have been scrapped, being considered worthless, that the remaining ones can only go up in value. I have an engine like yours from my 109 FFR which now has a 200 lump in it. Now that there is so much hostility towards diesels there has been a 180 degree turn in opinion of the petrol...

Replacing rear 1/4 chassis rear cross member series 3 88”

I used ordinary garden hose as trunking and fed through it, the correct coloured wires which I got from Autosparks. The hose, I fed over the transverse floor supports where they jump over (under) the longitudinal floor supports, it is out of the way and looks neat, you can push it though a...

Series 3 which lead to which spark plug?

Quite right, diagnose first and replace only that which needs to be replaced. A compression check is what I'd do first as well, make sure of the basic soundness of the engine otherwise all your efforts with ignition and carb might be wasted. You can buy a compression tester kit on Amazon for...
