Just bought a 1998 diesel freelander. It's reluctant to start from cold (5 to 10 seconds cranking and tickling accelerator). Once started it fires up as good as gold on subsequent starts within 3-4 hrs, after this the problem returns.
My mechanic suspects a pump in the fuel tank (have changed glow plugs with a slight improvement). Any ideas if and how I can confirm diagnosis as he says it's going to be about £300. How long will they soldier on with this problem (it always starts eventually!)
