Very poor MPG on V8 - Help needed! :-(

Right!!!! I reckon it's fixed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I took the inlet manifold off, then used the DTI guage (had the head on so took 30mins just to secure the DTI down and through the spark plug hole) got ATDC, checked full lift on no.1 inlet - was hoping it was going to be 1 tooth out...

Pulled 2 big vans that got stuck after sliding off the road, made me feel all good inside.

Well boydy, you may have just answered my question :D Because it's already running lumpy with bad economy! I may have to put some time into seeing if it really has been incorrectly positioned but I've tried just about everything else, cheers :)

Very poor MPG on V8 - Help needed! :-(

I think it's the timing but from the timing wheel/cam not the ecu, new plugs too. Don't think it's the injectors as I get poor MPG on LPG and it's just a single-point system so the injectors aren't used. I'm wondering if anyone knows how it would run if the timing wheel was 1 notch out?

Not tested air-flow, but when I take leads 2 & 6 off it still runs pretty much the same as with all 8 so not sure if it's that. Wouldn't mind knowing if anyone has fitted the cam timing chain 1 notch out and if they have had similar results or it would be way off what I'm getting.

I wish that was the case, but no I've been driving like an angel, 40-60mph and not much stopping, also go into corners quite wide so I don't have to slow down too much.

My Landy is still eating Petrol and LPG (8-10mpg at best), I've tried everything but am at a loss (both mentally and pocket) so am asking for help. It's a 1984 Defender with: Brand new 4.6, 4.6 heads, new cam, timing chain etc.. the whole works mated to a 4 speed ZF auto box. Just fitted new...

    McDonalds Landrover - New engines/parts

Engine: 4.6 V8/hotwire intake/4branch with no cats I'm having trouble getting good MPG, the guy I've taken it to has replaced the plugs/cap/leads etc... and it's been fully set up, but still getting only 10mpg on petrol, 9mpg on gas he's telling me it's all pointing to the camshaft, but I have...

    Lpg

I've been getting awful MPG results from both petrol and LPG but it's going down to a guy in south London who I've been told he's top notch, if you live around this area I suggest you check him out. If you need his number Message me.

Will report back, it has an auto box which doesn't help, but it does have very long gears (120mph easy) so I'm guessing the transfer box has been changed to a Range Rover or possibly disco one? Also it's a 4.6 too, I'd love to get 20mpg

What? Yours can't be doing less than 9mpg, you must be towing a train to get less than that from the diesel, or am I missing something?

I was getting 8.6 mpg on LPG and 11mpg petrol, just changed thermostat as it was stuck open so never got a chance to run at normal temperature, I'll report back when tested. I'll be happy if I get 15-16mpg round town on petrol and 13-14mpg on LPG

trust me it will get used to go through the mud too. I used t work as a ICE fitter years ago and still enjoy doing custom installs, just something to pass the time, did only really start doing it as the center console was looking really messy and it just spiraled out of control, as they do.
