registered in 68 but new chasis and engine. Tax Free??

Thank you very much Guys. I am pleased to read that new for old is classed as a repair, so i do not need to worry about the points as long as it is not upgrading. Cheers, David

registered in 68 but new chasis and engine. Tax Free??

I want the Landy. Will not pay road tax if I do not have to. Do not want to get hit with a road tax evasion charge later because I have not been paying when I should have been. So dare I buy a modded pre-73 and continue not paying tax just because the ebay advert says I don't have to?

registered in 68 but new chasis and engine. Tax Free??

Been looking at Landys, and seen plenty of Series IIA advertised as having free road tax as pre-Jan 73, despite new ganvanised chassis, suspension and unleaded head engine work etc.... Is this legit? If not, then does the MOT tester pick this up? I want to buy a road tax free, but not want...

    Cheapest insurance, and 2.286 v V6/V8

Busy pouring over Series II and IIA adverts as I finally have the cash to buy my first real landy (my car is a Freelander). Got a real spread of insurance quotes for "standard" vehicle, but not sure if modifications will take the price up much, until I get a specific vehicle quote. Who do...

Where to attach tow rope for max strength?

Much appreciated thanks guys. I have dug all round and sawn off the roots I can get to. I left it about 6 foot high for leverage. I'll pass on the tow bar offer thanks. Will use front eye and reverse gear. Geting the rope Tuesday, so will let you know what gives first...... Cheers...

Where to attach tow rope for max strength?

Guys, Prepare to cringe.... I want to pull a tree stump out using my Freelander. So where to attach the rope? I do not have a tow bar. On the front I have a choice of the "emergency towing loop" protruding from the bumper on the passenger side or there is a kind of "V" shape bracket in...

Living without synchromesh - an issue?

hi Guys, Still looking for a Series III, but seen a great 2A. I have never driven a vehicle without synchromesh and am nervous about it. What do you say? How much hassle is it? Do you have to stay in 3rd and never change down till you stop? Appreciate advice please. Cheers, David

No point paying twice - why not just spray the "bowl" with metalic silver paint and it will look great.......:)

    V8 in a Series III Lightweight - 10 mpg?

Seen a V8 Series III lightweight for sale and the owner says he gets around 200 miles off £80 of fuel. Road use. Does that sound right - about 10 mpg by my maths?

    Putting a V8 into a Diesel 88

Thanks Stu, I have to admit I expected that the gearbox would be in the same place on all Series III 88, so a suitable bellhousing would enable an engine match with no effect on gearbox, shafts etc.... i thought at worst it would just be moving engine mounts back and forth as required. I...

    Putting a V8 into a Diesel 88

Hi everyone, I am looking round for my first series 3. I would love a V8 ideally, but any petrol would be good. I am thinking to source a cheaper S3 by finding a good chasis with a dead-ish engine and then putting in a recon engine myself so I at least know the engine is good. I am looking...
