Just be aware that, unfortunately, that may not hold true. Different makes may have different baseline resistance on the wire with the electronics sorting out the correct signal. I am only guessing. I would want to build a test rig.
One would think then that there has to be a baseline resistance on the wire that would be common for each MAF to have a starting range. If anyone has a known good OEM MAF kicking about would it be possible to take a resistance reading to have...
I have always assumed, perhaps incorrectly, that there would be electronics in the MAF, at the very least to compensate for the variations in input voltage.
I suspect you are correct Keith (hence why I said "assumed" above !! ).
Most docs are vague onb it, but "GEMS by Poole" document says this, but that could be a resistive divider with or without correction. Correction of non-linear output could...
Just an update, the o rings were the problem I replaced them all ,left it in off-road height overnight with F44 fuse removed, hasn't dropped a millimeter.
I must thank everyone for there help.
I have never had the opportunity to take a hot wire MAF apart, but in principle the hot wire is a variable resistance, the volt drop is measured to produce a signal proportional to airflow. Exactly what electronic parts are involved I do not...
Pin-1 should be supply voltage. A1-6 connects via RL12 to 12V
Pin-2 will be the MAF output
Pin-3 goes back to the ECU Ground via A1-9.
Assuming no electronics inside the MAF, you should see static resistance across pins 2 & 3 (maybe 1-2 as...
I just wondered if there was a static resistance that could be measured from the unit itself, there must be something way out of kilter on the new units as compared to the OEM ones as even trying to start the car is virtually impossible. It...
Now that's a good question.
What can we measure? Resistance? However, you would have to measure that resistance at different air-flows as resistance with no airflow may not be representative. Hair dryer?! Airline with flow meter?
Now that the car is seemingly running fine on the used MAF I thought I might try to see why 2 new MAFs do not work. One that I got I have managed to get a refund but the one I got from Island 4X4 I have not heard anything from them regarding a...
Just a quick update, after fitting the used SAGEM MAF I have now managed to go for a reasonable drive around to get the ECU to adapt to the change. It is now a very different car, smooth as silk, idles as steady as a rock, no hesitation when...
Believe me there were a multitude of cuss words, some really, really naughty ones :)
Funny thing is a local chap pulled in in a s3 Landy and asked if I wanted to sell it, hmm, the thought had been crossing my mind, trouble is it would be like...
Just to update. I have again tried the 2 new MAFs with the same ending, chugging black smoke and backfiring. I have now fitted a good used one from James Coleman (SAGEM OEM) and tried it, it started but was really rough. I checked for any faults...
Water ingress in the nearside rear quarter is not unknown or corroded connectors. Have you looked in the spare wheel well? The tailgate seals are a know problem with an official mod to fix the leaks, bend the flange on which the seal is mounted...
The first one looks like a deliberately drilled hole? If you use an arc welder, disconnect the battery negative or you may destroy the electronics. Personally, I would treat with Phosphoric acid to kill the rust and then repair with fibre...
All sorted, pretty easy TBH, the plastic latch piece on both had got gunked up with old grease, dirt and rust, a few squirts of brake cleaner and nice new lube. I didn't even need to remove the latches, both smooth as silk now and close and open...
The lower one has a screw in the door the upper is held with the pin and sac cup. I am not sure if there is a screw in the front of the door, mine is just clip on with the above fittings. I have some in my spares boxes just in case :)
Also check that GEMS is set for the correct engine size. 2nd screen in settings menu.
Once you get the settings in the right ballpark, you should do some drive cycles to train the ECU.
