Ahh I forgot to line up the bell housing crank pin with the chain.. was out about 5mm on the sprocket adjustment. I went for a run like this & noticed it underpowered & smelt abit.. How far out before the valves hit the pistons? Obviously not good to run like this but hope no damage done :/

When refitting the cam sprocket I noticed there is about 1/2 an inch adjustment on the bolts, I set them hard left so the timing chain lines up with the cam notch. However looking at where the bolts used to be on the sprocket the timing chain tdc marker would have been to the right of the cam...

Bit of a mission doing the head gasket.. got it to fire again today, good feeling..thought it wasn't going to but it eventually stormed up! Another point to make about head bolt tightening, I assumed you finger tighten bolts then start at number one & tighten to 30nm etc (stage one). However...

Just putting the wiring loom back on my td5 after a head job.. The plug that goes onto the injector wiring harness is hanging on by one retainer clip (side plastic clip). So if this snaps I'm guessing the car will stop. Can you buy these plugs individually or do you need to buy a whole new...

the surfaces are machined flat..my brain is finding it hard to understand why it won't work haha guess there is a loss of pressure

Had a stripped thread on my fuel pressure regulator when installing new crush type gasket. Helicoiled the thread, is there a reason I can't reuse this gasket, yes I know its been crushed but I can't think of a reason it won't still work? Guess I'll find out a few miles on..

Going to use Loctite 518 to put the two halves of the head back together. Just wondering if the sealant goes on all flat surfaces (including head bolt hole surfaces) or just around the outside?

still had the plastic dowels so was the first gasket on mine (3 hole), only getting a couple of thou taken off the head as its straight.

My local rover mechanic has seen them with 3 hole original gasket.. nothing in my service book points to one being done. So much conflicting info flying around about td5 head gaskets do's/don'ts, its crazy!!?

Yeah seems original then, gets confusing when they all have different sized gaskets from the factory..guess we're not talkin German engineering though are we ;)
