hi a series adaptor plate will fit but the correct way would be to get your disco lt77 v8 box converted to defender gearsticks then all will fit straight in the reposition the engine mounts to suit v8 the all hoses etc will fit straight on regards steve ps done a couple of these if you get stuck...

hi when you rechassis you should leave all susspension bolts loose untill the chassis bears the total weight of the car this is so the bushes dont lock out and twist resulting in premature bush failiure

hi check the 2 bolts in the front of the t/box where it bolts to the main box as these 2 are short bolts opposed to the others that are long if hes put the wrong bolts in they are too long and are hard against the intermediate gear causing a whine would also explain why quiet in neutrel

hi what year is your disco if its a td5 you can order a new ignition from landrover to your chassis no and a new key

hi was it all ok prior to the starter failing sounds like a direct short in the starter sending it to earth hence getting hot try a recon starter or one from a known good running vehicle
