Ok, thanks for all the help but it seems that the keyfob is broken. Tried all the methods of re-synching but it won't work. If I want a 2nd key I'll have to bite the bulet and go to the local dealer.

Well the wire waggling worked, I can't see what was wrong with the plug though. It's not corroded and seems quite stiff to slide in and out of the other end. Still it works fine, maybe a dry joint on the wire crimping? As far as the key is concerned I tried putting it in the ignition but no...
