A friend had a similar problem, have you checked your swivel 'kingpin' bearings? jack up either of the front wheels, an grab top an bottom of tyre, try an move it in an out so to speak, if there is any movement their screwed an will prbly need replacing... Depending on your spanner abilities...

diesel grade 15w-40, no need for a synthetic an i wouldnt recommend magnatec, an about 6l or 6 an a bit with a filter change....

after a recent dip my '93 200tdi disco has developed tight spots in th steering when driving normally, ive checked an greased all th t/rod ends, checked th fluid level in th p/steering an made sure th belt is tight, plus ive jacked up th front an checked for movement/tightness in th swivel ball...
