I have so far experienced all those niggly little issues they throw at you after you drive one out of the showroom and after 130k miles, mine was looking for more attention than a mistress half my age probably would be insisting on with similar expenditure to go with it. But I'm still hopeful...

You're never too old to learn new things, but you can be too stupid After many years regretting selling my old SIII Landy after doing a full restoration on it, I finally reached that age where I decided I needed to get my dream car, well nearly, I recently purchased a 2008 L322 3.6. Good to...

Hi there sadly I sold my landy about 18 months ago as I was going to use it for off roaring, anyway my s3 served around Folkstone in Kent was registered April 1981 and was kept original. After I restored her I didn't have the heart to trash her off roaring and thought it better she retire to...

    Engine temperature issues

Another cause for engine running hot and especially if back firing could be due to incorrect timing. After running for a while and engine up to temperture and switching off the ignition, do you get pre ignition, the engine still continues to try and run for a while. Might be worth having this...

    Brake master cylinder

I believe this might be to do with the balancing of the fluid flow between the back and the front brakes. The smaller connector will restrict the flow whereas the larger will allow more fluid and therefore allow more pressure to be applied to the brakes. What I dont know is which way round these...

    Antiburst lock adjustment!!

Hi there, Anyone any experieance with adjusting the door locks on a series 3? I have the antiburst variety fitted to mine and although the door closes and latches alright, I only lock the door with the key or latch if I ensure the catch is fully closed/down. Adjusting the locking plate out so...

    Series 3 - 2.25 petrol over heating

Other causes of overheating could be caused by the fuel/air mixture being to weak, could check plugs for colour, if white, to weak, looking for pinky colour for correct mix, black/sooty, to much petrol. Ignition timing incorrect. But did you state earlier that all was well without the thrmostat...

    swb petrol wandering

Its most likely your track rod ends are past there sell by date, to check them you'll best have a trained mechanic look at them as the front wheels should be jacked off the gound and a large prybar used to check for play.

Clutch replacement time. Also brake issue.

Hi ChrissyG, When it comes to brakes, I wouldnt risk not having them properly checked. S3 Brakes being drum type are not the best and can be difficult to get bled, I did mine and although they was alright, had a local garage bleed them whilst replacing the track rod ends and they made them...

    Series 3 Dim Headlights

O.K found out the problem was with a duff earth from the bulb to the inner front wing, replaced this with some nice new wire and the lights work fine now. Tried just cleaning the contacts but this didnt make any difference, as the impedence on the wire was to high. When stripping back the wire...

    Series 3 Speedo Calibration

The good news is that my Landy got its MOT last week after a year and a bit of rebuilding it. However after doing some road trials I notice the oddometer milage is about twice what I believe I have done. For a 1.2 mile journey it reads about 2.5 miles. Now I can't believe the wrong size tyres...

    Series 3 Dim Headlights

I'm nearing completion of restoring my old Landy but I have an electrical fault which I think is caused by a combination of old wiring and poor earthing. The symptoms are dim headlights, both bulbs just about glow orange when on dipped or main beam? I have cleaned up the earth point under the...

    Radiator knocking noise

O.K this was caused by two problems, the first and main cause was a duff thermostat and the second by a failed heater hose which I hadn't replace earlier. Now the motor runs without overheating, thanks for all the help. Regards.
