Check the in-line hand primer pump, the internal diaphragm collapses for a past time and causes fuel starvation. Bypass its and see if it cures it.

In a caterham or an elise, (both companys upgraded the engine to get rid of all the weaknesses) its a good bit of kit, very fast!
