Got the heads off, the gaskets looked fine but I've got what looks like coolant in cylinder 4. I can't see how it was getting in there unless it's coming up the back of the liner, not good. What are the options in order of cost? https://goo.gl/hAcjfC

Thanks, yes I wouldn't be surprised if it's a liner. The ticking was quiet at first but got a lot louder over about 2000 miles of driving. So it did sound like a small exhaust gap getting gradually bigger. Do you know how engines with slipped liners usually die? I'm wondering if it was a liner...

As biketeacherdave says, it's definitely worth checking the thermostat, replacing it's an easy job once you get the fan out of the way. I think you can get one for about £30. Considering you have no obvious water coming out the exhaust and your oil and coolant look good you might be lucky and...

Just took the exhaust manifolds of my D2 2003 V8 and whoever took them off last time used 3 gaskets everywhere, a total of 12 gaskets. I don't know if they just kept the old ones and added new but it didn't look right. I've heard that if they have double gaskets from the factory it's a good...

Well that didn't work. The SAI pipes were still in the way of 2 of the head bolts BUT I got the things off finally by wedging a spanner horizontally across the exhaust manifold to stop the SAI adaptor turning and then some effort and a bit of swearing encouraged the union nuts to undo, I think...

Don't think of it as the end, it's the just the beginning... o_O What does the inside of the oil filler cap look like? Should be oil coloured. Is the coolant still nice a clear pink/green? Was it making any funny noises before it overheated? Like a loud ticking/tapping noise? Mine overheated...

Hi all, I have a 2003 D2 V8. It's pressurising the coolant pipes, steam/vapour coming out of the coolant cap (even when coolant is cold!) and the coolant smells like petrol so I'm thinking head gasket gone. I'm going to take the heads off and see what can be done. Look forward to bothering you...
