    Defender clutch

It doesnt look like it ! I can't help with any mods but I just had all that lot out to change the master cylinder. I need all the travel in the standard setup. With it all adjusted with a minimum of free play (hardly any lost travel at the start of the pedal stroke) I get to the biting point...

Problem Any help on how to solve ??

When we were looking around my wife said a 110 was far too big, in fact that any LR was far too big and was keen on a teeny Suzuki thing. One sit in that and it was eliminated and then a Grand Vitara was on the list..Eeek. I got home one day and she said there was a 4x4 for sale just 1/2 a mile...

    Tips on welder purchase

I can highly recommend getting an electronically switched welding mask as suggested above. I am still learning mig and it really helps to have 2 hands to hold the torch under proper control as well as see whats going on with no distraction. The nicest masks are well over £150 but I got a Parweld...

    Which wire goes where (voltmeter)

Oh, The dash lamps are switched on my '87 so you would have to have them on to see working. Better to find another switched feed. There are some about, I wired in a stereo recently and found several switched by the ignition but none permenantly supplied so it forgets the radio stations each...

    Which wire goes where (voltmeter)

I have no experience of the LR voltmeter, I've had no need to take it out. but I would assume it has only two terminals, 0 and 12 as you say. Why dont you try it between earth and the 12v you just put on the dash bulb ? The meter is showing the voltage across the whole system (since it is all...

    Help Needed!!!!

Just disconnect the breather pipe from the rocker cover and point it some where rusty or into a separate bottle. I get the same (a 2.5TD). Seems a shame to spoil a good filter doesnt it ! Old oily filter or new filter couldn't tell the differenc driving though ! AndyC

    Please help

We bought our first LR last summer, a 2.5TD 110CSW for £2,600. It needed a good number of bushes and the odd steering joint changing before it drove more like a car than a vintage tractor. It's great. What ever you get change the cam belt if there is no history. Ours broke a few months later and...

    Chassis welding

Mig is easy! I bought a nice MIG welder a few weeks back to join back up the rear body x member on a 110CSW, next the rear xmember. I havent done any significant welding for 20years and just practiced for a while on spare material playing with the wire speed and current. Different thicknesses...

2.5td running a bit hot when towing?

I agree with Discomania, the airflow as you drive even at much less than 70 covers 100% of the rad and will take away all the heat it can. I doubt adding a fan would be noticable at speed. Sure with low speed and stop starts and sub 30ish. My 110 temp gauge would creep up by a big needle width...

    Failed Emissions

You have had a good number of things to try now we are on page 3 ! I regularly see diesel vans and cars putting out a good bit of smoke, I dont mean a swirl of smoke as some TDCI takes off down the road but a labouring transit on a slight slope type of situation putting out enough smoke so you...

    Recon engine

I broke a cambelt on my 2.5td/19J and looked around for prices on reconditioned engines. A proper job seems to be £1650 / 1850 plus VAT! but they are back to standard etc etc. Still got to put your old (and tired) parts onto it and put it in...If I had a TDI I would have considered spending the...

    2.5 turbo diesel

Throttle cable or linkage sticking ? Cable routing ? These engines can run out of control when they are so worn that engine oil passes back into the airfilter and is burnt instead of fuel but then it would not have stopped on the key. AndyC

Cambelt broke today (19J)......likely damage anyone ?

I'm down in Surrey so a round trip to Glasgow is about 900miles with a trailer. The best price for a full 're-manufactured' full engine was from 'Engines Direct' / Rivermead Engineering at £995 plus VAT. I added the word 'problems' after the supplier name and the first hit from Google was BBC...

Cambelt broke today (19J)......likely damage anyone ?

Thank you for your comments. We have only had it 6 months and it is now blindingly obvious that the first job is a new cambelt were the history is not proven. Boefre it broke it was still obvious ! The engine is a heavy smoker on start and by the looks of the last few MOTs was hard work to get...

Cambelt broke today (19J)......likely damage anyone ?

We have only had our first LR for about six months now. Apart from lots of suspension bushes, a universal joint, clutch slave cylinder and part of the exhaust its been completely reliable ! All forgiven. Until now... What are the odds on bent valves do you think ? Is it worth trying a...
