    Buying A Discovery V8

Hi Mike, Did the lack of boot space or the very dodgy clutch do it for you ?? The most embarrasing thing was when I bought a new toolbox and had to collect it with my wife's Audi A3 because I couldn't fit it into the boot or back seats of my ZS Saloon :o . Mark

    Buying A Discovery V8

Struck a nerve there me thinks. I agree regarding auto's, that's all I drive and guess what - my 4.0 V8 is auto. I didn't try the TDI, just the TD5, and still think that when mated to a 4 speed auto it needs to be reved hard to get anywhere. I do realise that it won't have as much get up and...

    Buying A Discovery V8

I tried a TD5 Auto, I was passed by several cyclists whilst trying to accelerate out of the showroom. It just aint right to have to rev an engine that hard to get it to move. I am currently using my 4.0 V8 Series 2 Disco to commute to Aberdeen (56mile round trip including crossing the city) and...

    Service Schedules

Does anybody have a service schedule (ie what gets done at each different service) for a Series II Disco 4.0 V8. When does the timing chanin need to be replaced etc..... Cheers, Mark:)

    Timing belt

I thought that the timing belts were changed at 90K. I used to have an MG ZS with the same V6 and it was a very expensive affair with most places taking the engine out to do it as it was quicker. Mark

    Gear Box woes

pass seat, rear wiper, cruise - no worky

The cruise control is almost certainly caused by a cracked piece of rubber pipe. If you trace the throttle cable back to the cruise control unit, there is a black rubber hose with almost a 180deg bend in it. Mine had split at the bend. Cut end off push back on - jobs a good un. Cheers, Mark

    auto behavior

I have a 1999 4.0V8 Auto, and I can select gears as soon as the engine starts. I had a similar problem on the wfes old Mazda, and it turned out to be a low fluid level. Cheers, Mark

    Hi Lift Jacks

I bought myself a nice new 48" hi-lift jack. It arrived I unpacked it and went out to see how well it worked on my new landrover. I put it beside the Disco and bugger me I suddenly realised that the side steps may cause me a few problems. :o Can these be used with a disco with side sills ...

    Manual vs Auto

A V8 with an auto box is the way to go. If you can afford to feed it.:D Mark

    Road Tax

Yes it is, hence the bands. But the highest band only applies to fairly new vehicles (not sure exact date). Cheers, Mark :)

    Ecu Re-map.

To be honest in a car that weighs 2.3T, I would imagine that any increase in BHP would be barely noticeable. If I wanted a quick car, I would have held on to my twin turbo Subaru or V6 MGZS. I want better responsiveness, cooler running engine in the mid range (wher most of my driving would be) &...

    Ecu Re-map.

It is a little bit more responsiveness that I'm after, which I believe an optimized map may give me.

    Ecu Re-map.

Is this re-map also available for the 4.0 V8 in a series II Disco ?? Mark
