The last Alt burnt out around a year ago, I was running twin kenlow fans which didn't help too much. When winching at night, with 2x fans running and all the lights on it is alot of strain on the alt and from the display that I have in the cab it suggests that over time the batteries are...

I'm running twin Optima batteries with a split charge system due to my winch, fans, lights etc. It all works fine but nows the time to upgrade the Alternater. I have a fairly new one on there at the moment, just a standard jobby. The engine is a 4l v8 from a range rover in a defender 90.
Is...

Hi guys and happy new yr! Well in 6hrs..
My defender seems to like oiling up the plugs and I would say every 2 - 3 weeks i'm having to clean them. It does also smell too - petrol of course. Does anyone have a photo of what the breather pipes look like and where they go to or just a photo of...

Mine has been lifted for a few yrs now and no problems at all..

That's really interesting news, thank you both. I'll drain the oil and let you know my finds. I assume with the price of gear box's its probably easier and cheaper just to swop it than repair it. What years were the later 'd' types fitted too?
Your right how it happens when you least expect...

Good stuff, cheers. I've been look at it again for him and the gear stick is actually still stuck in third.
Is the series 3 box the same size and will it connect up to the overdrive just the same?

My father has a 2.8l Daihatsu powdered series 2a with a standard gearbox. He noticed that the handbrake tunnel started getting warm when driving and before he knew it the back wheels locked up. It seemed to be stuck in third gear. I towed him home and it has come back out of gear now but you...

I have the same roll cage on my 90, you can see it on the little photo. If you live near me (north Wiltshire) your welcome to come and have a look. It goes straight through to the chassis. My vehicle has been raced and is also fitted with 4 point belts as well as the normal seat belts.
My...

I have twin kenlows on my 90 4l v8. They work well but use alot of juice from the battery so I have added a split charge and run 2x optima batteries. They also work off a switch on the dash for wading. They fit really nice in the space I have, plenty of room between the fans and the pulleys...

Thanks bevhelee but its not the rear wheel cylinder, thats dry and the grease is coming from the centre and then going back onto the brake shoes. I thought to start with it would be a cylinder (easier fix).
I'm hoping my wife will let have a chance to look at it today, I'm supposed to be doing...

Cheers guys thats really helpful, Its the same landy as in my picture (1990 'g' reg). It was originally a 3.5 v8.
I will take it apart tomorrow and have a look, Its the only landy i have had apart from a series 2a so don't know a great deal.

Just wondered if anyone knows what would be the issue with this.
I have grease (not oil) in the centre of my rear wheel, defender 90 v8. Wheel bearing seems fine, took the rear drum off and thought it was the brake cylinder but its grease not oil. The brake shoes were covered in grease and it...

I found this rad on ebay, item number 110620470750. Is this the type of thing that would help, probably can't answer that unless its fitted and tested.

Thanks guys thats all really useful information, I will ring those numbers tomorrow and see what advice they have. Maybe that's my problem, perhaps it needs a oil cooler as well?

Does anyone know of a good company that can supply a good rad for my 4l v8 90 or upgrade the one I have.
I have had a few cooling issues with it but thats all been sorted now and it runs about 1/3 of the way up the temp gauge. But this is at the moment durring the cold months. Come summer time...
