Can't see reference to this under previous threads but would appreciate some help if anyone else has had same problem. The heater blower on our 1998 XEi only now works if on position 3 and 4 and nothing happens when switched to 1 and 2. Checked fuses under dash and the one for position 4 under bonnet but all fine. A/Con still works if switched on when on position 3 and 4. Anyone had similar experience or advice as to where to start looking next ?

Thanks

I have had similair problems on Ford cars and its the actual switch that you turn that is faulty, the connections wear due to using settings 1-2 most of the time.

Zippy

Ye, my grandad has the same fault on his 98 Mondeo. The heater usually starts to work again on 1 & 2 if you switch the air-con on...Ofcourse this uses more fuel but its better than freezing alive in your car. I don't no if these faults are linked because at the time of the Freelander coming out wern't Landy still together with Rover???

gmp,
I have the same problem with heater blower working on positions 3 - 4. I actually have the Haynes manual, so the first place I looked was the blower motor resistor, and sure enough the spiral wire resistors for positions 1 & 2 had melted.
I got a new spare part, but 2 days later it was gone again ...

I'm not sure why this happens, I will check the motor itself next ...

If anybody can help please do.

w1nd6urfa,

I changed dash switch (£20 down drain) only to find that it made no difference and it was the resistor which you identified correctly. Got my Haynes manual out and decided it looked a bit too fiddly to change and got a local LR specialist to do job. Somewhere on forum there is a previous thread which covers changing resistor which made mention of ensuring correct part being supplied. My local dealer was supplied with part which he sent back as from experience he knew it not to be correct. This could be your problem unless you have short somewhere else. Anybody wanting a second hand blower switch which works fine can have it for cost of P&P !
