Hi guys!!

Ive been asked to consult you lot on a fuel problem a friend of mine is having.

(1997 P38 2.5 Diesel)

A bit of back ground: he has a Fuel quantity solenoid fault so replaced his injection pump with a good used part. he has fitted new glow plugs and a big new battery (we did this last night)

His problem is that after his P38 has been standing for a little while it struggles to start it just turns over and over but doesn't fire.
He then trys it again and away it goes idling perfectly.

He then stops it and we waited a few minutes (made a brew) and the same thing happened.

is this the fuel running back towards the tank and having to be sucked all the way to the engine again every time or is it something far darker?

Thank you on his behalf

methinks data or wammy are the ones for this ?????????? but are you anywhere near ANTON'S GOUT ????????? and before all the comedians start tapping away ,,,, it is in a area that a special few would know ha ha ha , it is NOT a disease . cheers mozz

Hi Mozz,

he isnt im affraid. it was doing this before the pump was changed so not a timing issue as the pump has been timed correctly and he still has the issue..

Leaking spill pipes? Letting air into the system. Fuel filter letting air into the system from not being seated correctly?

any dtc being logged with the secondhand pump being fitted?

We checked the leak offs and not a drop of diesel...

And I guess your right Will but we checked the fuel flow and he was getting the correct amount of fuel pouring out (into a tub)

mmm any signs of leaked/leaking fuel ? paying more attention to the above/around fuel tank area poss first sign of corroded/failing line

No signs of leaking fuel :(

Tom which filter do you mean? the actual fuel filter? (the one you would change in a service)

Thanks lads
