Check the glow plugs are getting switched on - use a test lamp at each of the glow plug connectors.

Check you are getting a decent voltage down to the in tank fuel pump every time.

If all is ok there, it looks like an air leak into the fuel system some where. a bit clear pipe from the filter to the FIP will check wether that is happening or not.

He came over and we checked the glow plug voltage and he has plenty :( any other things we can check? the trucks faultless except this so its a real shame we cant get to the bottom of it!

Maybe the good used pump is not as good as it was thought to be. Or maybe he was hung up on a timing pip when the static was done. What's the modulation at 750 rpm?

Just spoken on the phone to him and he said its fine.. hes also bought a new OEM in tank pump to fit...

That will be a VDO unit then. They don't have a NRV in them as the genuine Landrover pumps had. Possibly due to the fact that all cars made after 1999 pump on cranking unlike pre 1999 that don't.
