Back again…
Acquired a 99 2.5 diesel auto.
New service, brakes, in tank pump and running great..

Drove it 4 days no issues.
Other day she got hot and cut out..
I let her cool and made it home.

Radiator is was replaced before I got it..a Nissans Radiator.
New water pump, thermostat, fan was working ok..
Put it back together, flushed rad, heat on, idle ok, adding coolant etc..

Put cap back on and the rad hoses were getting very hard..
When idling no bubbles..

Any help greatly appreciated..

The thermostat and water pump I removed where ancient…
Fan sounded a lot better with the new water pump..
Clean egr, vehicle has buckets of power now..

But the rad hoses keep getting hard…

Is there a test kit I can buy to check the head..??
Thanks

Yes there's a sniff test liquid you can get but make sure you get the diesel one. You can get universal ones that work on petrol and diesel but I'm not sure how good they are

How does it sound, does it roar or is it quiet on cold start up?
Definitely not a roar on start up, actually come to think of it, it was roaring on startup….but now not…start vehicle and the fan is operating very quietly all the time..

I’ll do the newspaper test and get sniff test..
