i'm on skiing hols in Austria with Disco 2 and has preformed really well in all snow conditions even with normal summer tyres.

But... if i freewheel (put in neutral) and let it run down the road of its own momentum i get a burng smell that sinks like the clutch is slipping. Could this happen ?

I was also thinking it could be the ABS as this has had to work hard in the snow ?

Thanks.

Why would you want to freewheel down hill in snow with no control? ie apply brakes and you could skid and crash!

However, you have an auto box and they break if you tow the vehicle too far (even in neutral). So... why would you want to freewheel in an auto?

I'm not that technical but I've always been told not to tow auto's too far. Can someone with tech knowledge help out here? or have I had the lamb fur pulled over me peepers!

It seems not... a quick google reveals lifting wheels off ground, disconnecting drive shafts or towing at under 30mph for no more than 60 miles etc to avoid damage... but can't find out why!

WITH GBOX IN NEUTRAL the gbox oil pump is not being driven but gearbox still turning with no oil being delivered=massive wear=new gearbox .simples

dont sound like the CLUTCH bands inside your gearbox are very happy - does it?

Noo gearbox time?
Dont coast downhill - or werent you taught anything in driving skool? Particularly an auto:rolleyes:.
