Morning all

Just a quick question.

When I have been for a run in the car and stop, there is a smell like coolant.

There are no apparent leaks from the radiator or hoses. All levels are showing as OK and not loosing any water or other fluids. The engine is running at the normal temperature and the fan cuts in when the engine temp is half way on the dial.

When you switch of the engine there is a quite hissing noise that lasts for about 2 mins then stops

Yu got a leak from ya heater matrix? Its common on the Hippoos and the smell is exacerbated by the enclosed space. put ya hand under the centre of the dash from the passenger side - sometimes its damp, maybe the carpet also. It dont need to loose alot to get the symptoms.

ALWAYS check the expansion bottle. As the heater matrix is a common fault and involves a whole day and dash removal to fix, most peeps just put up with it, unless it gets too drastic.

Just run the old girl up to the LR dealers next to work, they smell was there, they checked the matix no leak, and the checked the bottle, this was replaced about 2yrs ago according to there records.

They say just to check the fluids every weeks, but should be concerend unless a dash light comes on.

I called network q warrenties on the way to the LR dealership and they said if it is the matrix they would cover the cost (good to know as this means if the matix or the dreaded chg goes they will cover the costs.)

Once again Mad Hat Man thanks for the useful tips

Oh, I eggspected to clear up me own mess, but your's too Daft? C'mon, be fair!

If you ain't in the Dibnah next time & I'm giving you a lift again you're gonna be sitting on something soft and absorbent.............Like HB f'rinstance.

Well I have booked her into the local NetworkQ dealers next weekend, they are going drain and fill the cooling system and complete a preasure test.

They are confident this will help find the problem

Once I know what it is I will let you know the outcome

A problem shared is knowledge to others

You know when they replace the heater matrix it stinks even worse for a while as it runs in (and stings yer eyes up) ...how long should it smell for?
