Can anybody help here regarding fitting new silicone hoses on the TD4-Is there any benefits to fitting these or are they just cosmetic.have found some on here--dphsport.co.uk for £65-00 squid or can you buy cheaper in the uk----Dave

Hi Dave,

Yes - there are benefits and - No - they are not just cosmetic - some companies can supply black ones if you prefer.

They last much longer - that's about it - they don't 'sweat' like my original ones did - and they are a good bit stiffer so don't collapse or blow up / expand. My old ones wept oil from the joints - no matter how tight I made the Jubilee clips.

You need to have good hose-clamps - use the 12mm ones not the skinny 9mm ones. After so much tightening with the old hoses I renewed them all.

The most troublesome joint is the 90degree one where it enters the EGR - I fitted a 'T'-Bolt clamp there.

I also fitted a corrugated type silicone hose for the air intake too - that was a little bit of cosmetic - so the whole lot look pretty good now.

Derby Performance Hoses are a small company who will also make up 'one-offs' - they do a lot of classic and veteran car hoses. Very nice people - personal service when I visited their little industrial unit last year.

DPH hoses are 5mm thick - there are some 4mm or even 3mm ones on eBay.

I got ones fitted 2 1/2 years ago. due to the 90deg elbow and the small 2 inch hose at front of engine. My original hoses were done by 41k. I'm now on 68k with no issues.

Would be worth buying and fitting.

Thanks for the info-can i ask where you obtained your corrugated hose for the air intake from,have been unable to even get the part number for it?.thanks again Dave

Should take you to eBay item from autoperformanceonline.

Only little snag is the shortest length they sell is 500mm so I shared it with a pal, as you only need about 240mm.

Silkwood,have just ordered a set of hose's for mine,also ordered a piece of flexable air-intake hose from a MR-SILICONE.Just needed to tidy engine up.will post pictures [if i can] when i get it done.---Dave
 
wow your engine bay looks good in pic just looked at dph website they do 2 sets for the td4 one with sensor one without what sensor are they on about also do they do the air intake pipe you have got on yours there or did you get it some where else many thanks dawn

Righty ho -

You can see the sensor in the pic. I have three turbo hoses and the sensor is in the plastic cylinder part just to the rear of the dip-stick, to the left of the short straight hose. As I said, I picked up the turbo hoses myself from DPH.

I got the 70mm diameter air-duct part from autoperformance hoses on eBay, just google the entire line below:

70mm 2 3/4" BLUE Silicone Ducting Flexible Induction Air Intake Pipe Hose 0.5M

There is little to choose between them and Mr Silicone, another top-rated eBay seller. I think the 2 of them have a little price-war going on actually, as the prices vary a tiny amount every week or so. Sometimes one will give free postage.

Note that they don't seem to sell less that 500mm lengths of the stuff.

ar right yes see it now dont think mine as that fitted i must say it looks very nice been to the link on ebay they seem to do 1/2 metre for 14.99 would that be the right amount to replace the air intake pipe.also may i ask have you removed the cover that sits over the engine

many thanks for your time will order some my air take hose is looing tied now but my other hoses are ok is it really worth changing them many thanks dawn

Yes, it's worth it - they will leak or split any time as the originals are just rubber, which will become weak with age and heat.

If they split you'll lose power, not get much over 2000rpm and will have have filthy oil everywhere.

I replaced mine at around 75K as they were porous and 'sweating'.

Try searching on here for threads on turbo hoses - plenty info.

Just checked - the smaller cover was fitted from around the beginning of 2003 it says on an old thread......but my 2002 TD4 didn't have one either........:confused:

I cant imagine it was very effective - so not important to me - I like it better without a cover anyway. :rolleyes:
 
My engine covers are the same as singvogel's,only thing i don't have is the millers bottle and the bottle by the battery-and the christmas wrapping paper beside the fuse box!ha-ha.My car is a 55plate/06 registered and looks as clean as his.---Dave

Other Can anyone tell me the part No. for the crankcase breather hose on my Freelander? The clip is broken on mine. Can I just buy a new clip?
