Hi everyone i am new to the site today. So i hope some of you can give me some advice.
I am the proud owner of a '98 1.8 freelander.Recently when pulling off there has been a bang from the rear end.I have been told it's a common fault on these and it's the rear diff bushes with the centre one most commonly to go.I brought the part from my local dealer ( only £14 ) and tried to replace it myself.I got the old bush off in about 10 mins but couldnt get it out past the diff.So after struggling for about an hour i bolted the old one back on. Can anyone shed some light on how to get the bush off the car. The left and right ones look like they just drop off the car when the 3 bolts are taken out but the centre one is a different story
Hope some of you clever ones out there can help.
Stu

Done that but on the majority of the replies its just stated that its an easy diy job.I must be gettin old

Do i have to take the other 2 diff bushes off to allow some room for the top bush to come out the mounting or is there some simple way to do it that i am missing

HELP

I gather it is fairly easy - but then I aint done it - others will tell yu in detail - here is some bed-time reading...

Did it in December with the vehicle up on a lift. We had to drop the exhaust and disconnect the rear propshaft to get good access, but it was a relatively simple job. We did them one at a time, and watched the way they came out closely!

If you don't have access to a lift, I guess you would have to jack the vehcile up onto one side, with lots of propping of the components. More tricky, I think.

Cheers again

Another quick one
How do i view the gallery keeps saying its locked until upgrade try to put my user name and password in but it wont accept it

Thanks for your help everyone .Done the job this afternoon and took about half an hour.

You have to disconnect the three bushes and then move the diff about to slide the front bush out and the new one in.

Froze my nackers off though

Cheers
:p :D ;)

Changed mine TUESDAY.There was a feature in LRO MAGAZINE a couple of months back which said disconnect the other two mountings while supporting differential, then push diff slightly over to nearside of vehicle and remove front mounting,I found if I removed the R/H rear mounting and loosened bolts on N/S rear one with axle stand to support diff I could lever diff over enough to take out front mounting, exhaust gets in the way a bit but I'm sure you can manage, it's a piece of cake.
