Hi again folks, sorry I haven't been around for a while I've been drifting in the background, whilst repairing the motor.

So two weeks ago, I replaced drop links, various bushes and mounts for a wobble on heavy acceleration, felt through the gear knob and the whole car at 3-4k in 3rd gear, and various knocks on speed bumps.

And last week the diesel pump and filter.

Anyhow, got the car up again, wheels off again, and noticed the n/s inner cv boot was split, almost 360 degrees, and spunked its guts all ower the shop.
Although its still a bit juicy, I've noticed the rollers are still present, but there is about 1mm of play if I grab it and shake it. I'm aware the some play is acceptable but how much exactly.
Would a split cv boot cause this vibration, I don't think so, but I can't be sure.
I had already decided to replace the driveshaft before coming here, so I'm not sure what I'm expecting really, maybe sympathy or something.

(Can I just say, it ain't like me to ask for help on a matter like this, I've searched and searched and ultimately, can't find a part number for a GKN driveshaft for a 2005 TD4)

Any tratter girls got a jerry can?

I've got a vibration on my V6 which is noticeable on acceleration. I took a look last night. What I found was CV grease all over the place and lots of play in the spider joint. I've just ordered one of these

I figured the joint is shot. I'm going to see what a £50 drive shaft is like!

What year is your V6 mate? From my research ont web, inc on here, I've heard that the cheap shafts are rubbish, and will also vibrate, as on oem there is a button bearing setup to include up and down movement on post 2003-4 shafts which the cheap aftermarket parts do not include.
I am however insanely interested in your findings, and until then will withhold spending money.
How much play did you have if you don't mind me asking, as, for all there is no apparent play in mine with force, if I grab it, and move it quickly it does move a little, defined by a very very small rattle, I was initially hoping that a new boot and regrease would suffice, but I can't see a shot boot causing the heavy vibration.
I was hoping a saviour would be able to tell me otherwise, and save me having to buy a new GKN shaft.
I just hope that my IRD bearings aren't shot, as I've read a few posts on here where they have been.
Would you mind keeping me in the loop mate ;-)

My V6 is a 2001 (51) The oem shafts aren't up to much ether mine is loose at 35K miles although loosing it's grease won't help! If this £50 shaft lasts it's 2 year warranty that will do as I'll have a D3 by then :)

I'm sure it will last the two years, however from my searching for info, it won't stop the vibrating. Thus putting increased pressure on other parts like the ird and engine mounts.
I'm still holding off repair until you've done it, or at least until someone else feeds back.
Cheers for the reply.

If the shaft arrives Friday I'll be fitting it Saturday morning. I'll post my findings after that ;)
