Hi,

When I unlock my door and get into the car, it makes several beeps and the alarm's warning light flashes until the beep stops. Any idea what the point of this is?

Cheers

Rich

No, course they might find one of the thirty other threads with the same question first...

Yours truly

Cheers

Actually it is first on the results page! Oh well, at least Google will index it and it will appear more prominently than similar and older search results from competing sites with a similar Google PR. That's good for the site, right?

I guess my view on reposts is just different. I used to run a vBulletin forum for 6 years, not as large as this mind, but it had over a million posts, 23k members and for that reason, I never had an issue with similar content being reposted. It brought us more traffic at the end of the day due to extra content being indexed by Google. And tbh that's all I cared about because it put my CPC up for Google adsense revenue. Happy days.

RichM, I'me with you on this one.

If everyone used the search facility the forum would be dead as most questions have been answered previously.

The problem with vBulletin search is it don't always give the result you want and it's easier to just ask the question.

I've used search and found the answer to most of my problems, but if after ten minutes searching and not finding the answer, I'll ask.
Just ignore the negative remarks.

Plus.....if it were that easy to use search, those that say "use search" would use it and give you the link.

d'you think ? or is a part of the forum the endless banter, offers and requests for help, suggestions for outings, arrangements to meet up and so on ? Not every one comes here just for technical help

true, if you're one of the spoon fed generation who wants the answers on a plate and wants all the work done for you.

fair enough, if you've searched first, but RichM freely admits he didn't, and when he did, the answer to his question was the very first thread that came up. I then did it to prove a point. 3 out of the first 4 threads were about the exact same problem and solution.

You make comment about the forum dying without the same question being endlessly posted. I beg to disagree. I get more ****ed off with having to wade through pages and pages of the same question over and over again.

I would, if I had one. + I'm sure at some point, someone will wonder the same thing and will come across this thread only to find an answer. So it's not all bad, is it?

RichM, not at all bad.

If you do a search for Rave CD, you can download all the manuals and stuff from green oval dot com

there is a link somewhere, but a little busy right now to wade through pages and pages of posts

ahh, bollocks, can't be doing with all the bickering, here it is, never let it be said I'm a bad person:

http://green-oval.com/joomla/index.php?option=com_docman&task=cat_view&gid=13&Itemid=29

and if you go to this thread:

http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f8/rave-111345.html

there are some handy instructions for installing it etc.

good luck

Personally, I don't think it matters what's asked - as long as Storm99 replies!

We need that animation on every forum page:D

Well. this helped me, I had no idea wtf it was....I thought it was just another weirdism!! You can search for things if you realise or think there is a problem, but of you don't even think about it.....what was that old saying? there are those that don't know and there are those that don't know that they don't know...

Yeah, I agree with Credit. Doing a search isn't always easy since you have to know what you're looking for in the first place. Sometimes you may lack the words to describe the problem (although "beep" is pretty straightforward :D)
And yes:
