Hello, Im new on here but i need some help. the fuel pump on my td5 disco keeps popping out of the tank and I dont know why. I screw it down fine and it goes tight, but if you wiggle it it pops back off because of the spring, the thread doesnt seem to be holding it! I need to get it sorted because its spewing my diesel out when I go round corners! any ideas much appreciated!

Sounds like the locking ring isn't engaging properly in the tank slots.

Have a close look at the mating parts and see if one is bent or out of alignment.

Picture below of the removal/installation sequence.

thanks for that, Ill have a look later! Is there a thread that can be damaged? because the previous owner fitted it and I dont think he knew what he was doing, so he may have cross threaded it

Independent dealer i bought mine off said they can be a bit tricky to seat the locking properly, you have to put a lot of weight on it when trying to lock it in place. I haven't done it myself so hope that makes sense.

No, it's just a 'slow bayonet' connection arrangement.

See the comments from the other members about fitting also.

its not so much hard to get in, it goes in fine and the lock ring goes tight after a few turns, but if you grab it and wiggle it, it pops back off. I may try a new locking ring if theyre only a couple of quid!

right ive just ordered a locking ring from my local 4x4 shop, only 5 quid for the genuine part! Ill let you know how it goes, thanks again for all your help!!
