Hi All,
Can anyone please tell me how many rear lights their should be on a 1998 Discover Tdi as I only have the 2 on the rear bumper which in my opinion are not the best.

Trevor.

Thats right for a 98 Disco only the ones in the bumper, for some stupid reason they don't connect the ones on the body. I have wired mine back up so i've got 4 lights as per earlier Disco's.

If you want look at the bulbs in the body lamps they are still the twin filament (stop/tail) type and the wiring is there but only as far as the connector (the pressed bits of metal that make the circuit from the bulb to the connector finish short).

Its not too bad a job to get them working, you need to take the lamp cluster out of the boby and solder a wire onto the metal bit by the bulb, then connect the other end to the wire that goes to the connector.

If your still not clear on that I can try and get a picture for you.

Hope that helps.

Jon.

Hi Jon,
Thanks for the Info a picture would great.

Thanks again,

Trevor

This sounds relatively straight forward, we'll soon see tomorrow!

Would also appreciate a quick pic if possible please before I start adding wiring. :D

Thanks.

Aaron

Ok then, heres the photo. Not too good i'm afraid, it's a bit difficult getting your phone in there.

This is the passenger side one, the red wire is the one that i've soldered onto the lamp, it's spliced into the red and black wire (i think, better check the colours in haynes or rave).

Hope that helps,

Jon, that is indeed very helpful, I was just checking I'd understood your definition of extending wires.

That'll be me out there with the soldering iron first thing in the morning!

Next is to swap the reverse light and indicator position.

Many thanks for taking the trouble to take the photo, appreciated!

It is quite confusing on my 2001 S2 as well. I have lights in the body (top is brake, middle is parking lights and then the reverse lights obviously, but there are lights in the bumper as well. The indicators are obvious but the red ones next to them are wired in with dual filament globes but seeing as I dont have fog lamps on my beastie I am thinking of connecting them to either the brake of parker wires.

Nice to have a spare pair of brake lights I suppose. Although I had a mad mate who suggested we should have brake lights on the FRONT of the car. We all laughed at him until...... have you ever been stopped at the traffic lights and looked in your rear vision mirrror and thought ".. that blokes coming a bit fast...". Then wouldnt it be good to see the brake lights on the front of his car come on, telling you he had his foot on the brakes!!!:D
