I'm in the process of rebuilding the front axle as I acquired a new diff on ebay.

There had been quite a bit of noise from the front transmission. The front propshaft is also a bit loose so there's one on its way.

Another on-going problem that's on the list to sort is that the yella nob dun't stay down.

So, with every box in neutral tried to turn the front prop to get to the remaining nuts and it will not turn. Looks to be stuck in 4wd. Tried easing the linkages and they seem free enough but the props are still not turning independently and yella won't stay down.

Any ideas peoples?

there are 3 shafts that run through front of output housing red knob lever shaft ,little middle one for yellow knob and outer one ,this one often sticks in housing stopping the others moving fully ,its worth removing tin cover and freeing/ lubricating ,if pivots come off in box front housing needs removing which usually requires box out

Thanks James. Am I missing something though - got three bolts out but it seems that the yellow selector goes through the top of the tin cover and is stopping me getting it orf...

It's the bit on the end, right?

Thanks again. Still not getting it. Got that nut off (I fink) but the yellow nob linkage is vertical and is impeding the horizontal movement of the cover...

Ahhhhh. Think I understand now. Will try in the morning, off to the pub now! :beer2:

Thanks again and more questions or yippeees will be forthcoming in the am.

Reet, I've got the cover mostly off. The 'rod' in the most o/s tube is stopping it coming off and not moving. The yella nob linkage just seems to be going up and down and not affecting anything. Lots of lube and a bit of hittage required?

the middle shaft sits on a lever etween the 2 outer shafts ,unless they are both fully forward center shaft wont come forward enough for the pin to enter the hole in shaft , working ,lubing a bit of heat on casing etc

you have shifted the transfer box into low?
the yellow nob only resets when you shift into low, not on shifting to neutral.

Why is it people comment on posts without reading the content, eh?

Haven't looked at it for a week as I've been away snowboarding (nearly as fun as playing wiv the series!)

Where I got to - couldn't get the tin cover off completely but had it loose, loads of lube in and seemed to have freed it all off. Re-assembled it and it was stuck in 4wd again. I guess I need to get the cover completely off to clean all the crap out but canna get it passed the clutch mechanism. Again, wtf am I missing?

Done it! :D

Needed a bit of fiddling with the hi-low lever and putting the yella nob pin in to get the rods in a position where I could get the cover orf. Full of ****e it was, all clean and back together now.

Although it seems that I could do with a longer spring on the yella fing, any ideas where I can find one of them?

It does have its seat, it's just a bit short so the nob needs lifting to make it work. Would the spring have gotten compressed over time? Will have a look in the tratter place when I'm up norf (Dorset) later in the week...
