overheating

hi gents my series 3 lightweight does not over heat on tickover and normal driving around town but took it on m25 speed just under 60 for about 15 minutes and she went off the gauge and spat out about 4 pints of water. filled her up let her tickover for 30 to 40 mins and drove round town no probs, just at speed. engine only got about 500 on clock after rebuild but running time is many hours. new stat and water pump full of fresh oil no mixing of fluids, any help is good regards brian

sounds like radiator flow not enough for heat generated

Have you checked the fan belt might be slipping a bit under load

all tight on belt but rad is old part in system was cleaned out but could partly blocked reducing flow at speed
