Did a 2inch body lift on the disco a couple of months ago and i'm trying to work out how to get my bumpers lifted up to back to where they were (in relation to the body). How have people done this? Can you buy re-location brackets from anywhere, can i feckers find any when i search?

Thinking about making my own but don't really know where to start.

Any pictures would be good.

Cheers

Ben

I personally would make some two inch spacers out of steel box section quick and easy once cut drilled spray them black job done disco looks good

Cheers for the kind words mate.

Think i may have thought up a solution last night at work (atleast for the front bumper). I've got some 90x90x3mm box left from when i made the body mounts. Cant really describe what im wanting to do without pictures but it involves making a C channel the same dimensions the chassis rails and welding it to the chassis. Use the existing top hole (as the new bottom hole) and drill a new top hole in the C channel. Make a crush tube out of slice of my old steering rod as well. Pretty sure that doesn't make sense to anyone but off to the garage to have a look.

Will see what i can up with and take some pics.

Did notice that but i don't think it will be to bad, the bumper might stick out an extra 10mm or so.

Ended up buying a new bumper on sunday, will wait un-till its here so i can measure it all up before i weld things to the chassis

Should have just made a bumper :p

I think if you replicate the end of the chassis rail where the bumper should attach then use some plates to sit it at the correct height that can bolt to the original bumper position you should be ok.

I can weld but the time and effort required to build something i like would be soul destroying. I'd rather buy it and save the hassle. Heard that its been delivered today so i'm itching to get back on Friday!

So after a bit of dismantling, grinding, cutting, more grinding, welding, seam sealing, painting and reassembling, the new bumper has been bolted on 2inches higher on the chassis.

Now for a few pics.

Came home to a parcel on thursday night.

Friday morning the work bench was put outside and the back yard engineering began.

Started off with some 90x90 box section

Cut it to this shape so it cleared the 2inch body spacers and the flimsy cross member (don't know the proper name).

Took my old track rod and cut it down to size to make some crush tubes

Used the hole saw to drill a big hole so i had more area to weld it on top of the chassis rail

Bolted the bumper through the top hole on the chassis leg then propped it up to get the right angle before tacking the new bracket in place.

Once tacked on i also marked where the top holes needed to be drilled on the new bracket. It was then a case of welding all edge that were in contact with the chassis and welding the crush tubes in the right place.

A liberal coating of tigerseal then hammerite was applied

Once it was dry it was just a case of putting the front end back on and bolting the bumper in place.

Quite pleased with the results, took the best part of a day but i think it needed to be done to improve the overall looks. Looks a bit **** when there's a gap between the bumper and the body.

Now just need to work out what i'm going to do for the rear bumper
Got my hands on some 60mm tube so i'll be using that some how.

Cheers

Ben

Very nice job there Ben, looks really neat so well worth the effort you've put it.

Why are there no oil spots on your drive? I thought Discos that don't leak were mythical beasts :D

Thanks Rich. `Think it paid off in the end. Currently my Disco has changed the drive brown from all the rust and grinding  no oil spots yet though (touch wood).

Thanks for the kind words lads. I had every intention of getting on with the rear bumper but getting in at half four this morning slightly changed the plan. As a result F**k all has been done today :(

Made a start yesterday, pics are in my build thread http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f8/carry-project-big-blue-246752.html .

Now just looking at where i can put my number plate back on, thinking of getting an adhesive one and putting it on the bonnet but not sure how the plod will take to it, the A bar will probably block a lot of it from view.

I have fixed mine on some brackets attached to the spot light mounting points on my front bumper loop,
depending on size it may fit nicely in, mine dose

just an idea for ya :)

I know its not a disco but

Could cable tie it Dan but i'd have to cover over one of the jacking points.

Cheers Ian, think i've sussed it. Will make a couple of right angled brackets that fasten through holes for where the winch sits, have the number plate sitting central just above the cable slot.
