Hi, i just found this site through a search engine and registered straight away! I live in Chesterfield too and would like to know about some easy going green lanes close by. I don't want anything too challenging as my Disco is about 13 now and the only off-road mod are the All-Terrain tyres! Whats the deal with Hartington? I didn't know of any off-road places there? Many thanks,
Disco Diesel.

Where abouts is the lane in cutthorpe - im not too far and looking for some mud!

I seems to also recall someones telling me there was an offroad course in unstone.

Hi Jono, I went up jonnygate yesterday, I'd been years ago wit a ragerover I had, and just bought a Disco, so thought I'd have another bash. it's easy enough, just watch the trees..
there is a few lanes around here to use..

steve Fm. Bolsover - chesterfield

Had a look at maythegreenovalbewithyou, and tried a few routes. Point to note is "stanage edge" DON'T try this in a standard P38 there's parts where the boulders are Huge, and because there's a rock face to one side and a large drop on the other, you can't get around them.
I had to reverse for about 1/4 mile before I could do a 3 point turn.

Ay-up lads.

I did a search on Google for green lanes in Derbyshire and this came up, so as seen as there appears to be several of us in the area, I thought I'd pop in and say hello.

I live in Dronfield, (between Chesterfield and Sheffield), and I have a 1996 300tdi Disco. I have had this for about 18 months now, and all I have done to it so far is fit Guardian front bumper, rock sliders & steering guard, a pair of diff guards, Insa Saharhas and an alloy header tank as I was fed up of the plastic ones breaking.

The vehicle is currently off at RT Racing in Sheffield as I made the error of removing my carpet in curiosity to see how bad my floor sections were. I wish I hadn't bothered as the only thing holding it all together was several years worth of compressed mud! Added to this, I also have a few rust holes in the roof. Wish I had listened to my mothers advice about not picking at things as it only makes it worse. Fingers crossed I should have it back in a couple of weeks.

Anyway, that lane up at Jonnygate, I haven't been up there in years. Once I get the rust bucket back I think I may have a drive up there. I wouldn't reccomend going up after dark though, as thats a dogging area, (and I don't mean the sort that bark!).

Theres also the old quarry by the cement works at Hope. A lane runs up the side of there, bringing you out on top of the hill. Theres also a few around Chatsworth, but I cant really recall where, as I have only been on them once with some guys from Buxton & District LR club.

If any of you chaps fancy a run out one evening or weekend, then feel free to email me.

I also go up to the Pay & Play site at Frickley when I can, so if any of you fancy tagging along, again, send me an email.

Cheers.

I have also heard of an off-road course near Unstone, but have never been able to find it. Urban myth I think?

As for the lane at Cutthorpe....

From the crossroads at Cutthorpe, head towards Barlow on the B6051. As you come out of Barlow, continue on that road for maybe 1/2 mile towrds Owler Bar. Before you come to the next village, (Millthorpe), there will be a small crossroads. Jonnygate Lane is up the hill on your left. Just follow that lane up to Jonnygate, (which only has two house I think?), and just after the house, the road will turn from tarmac to mud.

Hope that helps.

the off road site at unstone does exsist and we call it the blackhills, the farmer used to let you pay a tenner and you could play all day and anyday but the local residents complained about all the 4x4s and bikes going down there little quiet lane, so the last time we went for a play the farmer told us he was restricted by the council to use the site once a month pm me for location

stanage edge bamford sculpture trail pindale quarry and trail all good areas to start and theres loads more in the matlock and buxton area enough to shake a stick at get yourself the os landranger 110 and 119 and away you go pal i am out there all the time
