hello all , as in my earlier post about changing my lock set , i removed a complete lock set and becm / engine ecu ready to fit into my car due to the 2 fobs on my car being in very poor condition .
so before doing anything i decided to use my nanocom evo to look what settings were in the becm and i was surprised to see noting but a series of dashes in the immobilization box and same in the eka and fob code boxes :confused: .

anyway i thought nothing ventured nothing gained so i first replaced the ignition switch and the car starts fine with no trouble or problem so i carried on and changed over the door handle so i now have a no1 and no2 fob in perfect condition .
the 2 fobs still have the small labels on the back and marked ; usa / canada , fcc id: lon 5077 , 2306 101 313a .

another reason for swapping over the key / lock set was to have the remote locking facility but this still does nothing even though both led`s light on the fobs and i still have the low key battery warning appearing on the dash on both keys :confused: .

So, to check..You have replaced the lockset and matching Becm from a donor car??-or are you using your original Becm ?
For starters, your Nanocom will not show the FOB code and EMS settings..these can only be read with the SM035 software. Chances are anyway that the Becm is "Locked", in which case you won't be able to see the settings for definate without SM035.
Your lockset is NAS spec which operates on 315 Mz as opposed to the U.K./European spec which is 400 odd Mhz, therefore, if you haven't changed the RF receiver to a NAS model there is every chance that the RF signal from your keyfobs are not being read correctly or even received.
There were a few of these locksets being sold on Ebay some time ago for just over £100 and they included, from memory, the matching RF receiver.

just had a thought here are the nas rf recievers available in this country ? or am i going to have a major search on my hands ? .
also the fact that i was able to swap the lock set without fitting the matching becm unit does that mean the becm fitted in my car isn`t locked ? .

You can either ask the Main Dealer to see if he can get one OR try going direct to the likes of Atlantic British in the U.S. (Google them)

What P38 have you got ??- It could be that the Becm settings have been changed to disable the alarm, immobiliser etc.
When the Becm gets a valid (Matching, the one stored) FOB code, it will operate the central locking.
As far as I know, Nanocom, Faultmate, Autologic and Test Book does not have the facility or capability to read or amend the vehicle security settings i.e. FOB code, EMS, VIN, Odometer reading etc. on a Locked Becm. They can, from memory, read the settings in an Unlocked BecmThe only software that can Unlock and read the Becm is module SM035 from Blackbox Solutions (Manufacturers of the Nanocom & Faultmate)
Do you have the 13 or 14 digit Lockset Barcode that is unique to each lockset...Without it, it's impossible to reprogramme a Becm unless you have the details of the car it came from (VIN No,)- a Main Dealer can, if he's having a good day, get it off the LR database in seconds.

my car is a 1998 4.6 hse ( R reg ) the doner car is a 1997 4.6 hse ( P reg ) .
i dont have the lock set bar code unfortunately and the lock set and becm was changed recently in the doner P reg car as i have an invoice for the replacement so , im thinking that the dealers wont have any details either
so i guess im stuck between a rock and a hard place here :boom:

When I used to do the Becm's, I always gave the customer a print out of the settings and if I replaced the keyfob and changed the FOB code I told them they should either pass the information on when they sold the car or get a Main Dealer to update the database.
If the remote locking worked okay on the donor car after the lockset was updated then the chances are that it will work on yours.
The GEMS engine ecu security code (EMS) can be any number between 0 and 65535 and most of them that I worked on had 65535 as the EMS setting. The chances are that your GEMS ecu is 65535. Worst case scenario is that you will have to do an Engine security learn with your Nanocom.
Why not swap the RF receiver over with the one from the donor car and give it a go. You probably will have to do a resynch of the keyfob(s) also.
At a guess, the lockset on the donor car was one of those bought off Ebay OR you could try and find out from the previous owner where and when the chaneover was done and who did the FOB code change on the Becm. there are people on here-Rick the Pick and Dougdotcom who can unlock your Becm and give you a print out of the settings. They can also "Clone" your old Becm to the replacement so that you will have a "Plug & Play" spare....always handy !!!

With Nanocom think you can lock an unlocked BECM but you can't unlock a locked one.

Correct....Test Book is the same.
If you take your car into a main stealer for reprogramming of the Becm and it is unlocked, they will automatically relock it which will bar access to the FOB code, EKA, EMS and Alarmed/Normal status....you will not even be able to see these settings let alone change them.
An unlocked Becm will not affect the operation or reliability of the Becm in any way whatsoever. It's done to stop people playing about with them.
If a main dealer makes a balls up of programming a new Becm and Test Book locks it they have to send it away for unlocking which is both expensive and embarassing for them :eek:
If you are working on n unlocked Becm ALWAYS make a note of the original settings etc. I know ith Faultmate that the settings can be saved to your PC or printed out.
 
thanks for the info mate your a star :) , im slowly finding my way around these motors , i was just gobsmacked that i was able to just change the lock set without any immobilisation issues :confused: .
