Im taking part in a rally heading down the west of Africa so i want to buy a spare one to strip down for spare parts. I would settle for a face lft if thebparts are interchangeable
Hi,
Yeah the arms themselves came off pretty easy, the aluminium bits underneath seem bonded to the spindle.
I’m a bit wary about using heat so close to the plastic and windscreen (and I sprayed a ton of PlusGas onto them)
I know that Rave...
Had a drive down to dottir's this morning to do a plumbering job. Tratter was rattling in the back somewhere with every bump in the road. More than the usual rattle from tools and gear jumping up and down. When I arrived there I checked the back...
The rear heated window switch should be down by your knee between the steering wheel and the door. If you have a fog switch there then I would remove the little three switch panel and see if the wiring for the heated rear window is still behind...
The swivel is fitted with one shot grease. Would it be normal for one hub to leak onto the disk and another on the wheel if it was the hub oil seal?
I cleaned it up as best as I could to see where it is leaking from.
I fitted corteco seals on both hubs. Yes seems strange that both hub seals would give way if the breather was blocked (I believe only one usually does to release pressure). I tried blowing air again through the breather pipe even with compressed...
Thanks again for responding to my query . I have taken off the plastic covers from the top of the motor and the air intake plastics now I can see the starter motor and what I think is the sensor below it . Is it possible to remove the sensor...
Right it's back in. It felt okay - no resistance.
Here's a before picture of the woodruff key before I removed it:
And here's after:
Does that look okay to you? Just checking...
Nearly forgot to put the brass nut on at 50NM before pulling...
That being the case the seal between the gearbox and transfer box will need changing, which isn't difficult in itself and is accessible once the units are separated.. I'm not an expert and have only once removed an r380 and lt230 together as one...
Further update
With a bottle attached to the breather hose I drove 4 miles came back parked in the level, yes as before transmission fluid is coming out of the breather hose, while laying under the vehicle looking for drips I saw a drip from the...
Afternoon

Fitting new skirting boards to me hallway 😎
Tallest sunflower now at 8' 6" , starting to open flower up so I suppose it's done growing now 🤔
Think me kidney stone either parked it self or moved on somewhere, either way...
Back to Exhaust again, Found Another supplier here very well made. same principle. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/116589559348
Fits well but goes under the crossmember, is that normal dont really think there is enough room to go through top. he...
Tried a dry fit of inner and outer, they meet quite well right height equally spaced, centre cill bridges gap, but outer showed a gap where it was impacted quite a bit of work straightening but probably worst bit, using a string line lever bar...
Well I knew someone would come along and say they pull a horse box with two horses in it round the world twice a year, since 1990 . I did say its my opinion now i might change it and fit two turbos like a D4 !.Only joking. what is IP?
I change...
I've a TDI 200 in my series, with uprated head and IP. I tow with it, and have been known the push it hard. No problems with the box, but I change the oil annually. And I change gear slowly. Ten years since I fitted the turbo.
Im going to do a chassis swap with a richard chassis which is S3 but has mounts/ takes a 300tdi engine removable crossmember for r380 and power steering box. Sorted!
P.S. To be fair ,So far this incarnation of the gearbox has performed well with...
Switch on brake pedal allows stick to move out of park. I think it is the small hall effect one, not the brake lamp switch. Maybe come unplugged or out of alignment. Or broken !!
In my opinion the series vehicle was designed with the power of the 2 1/4 engine in mind. (I know they did a v8 later but it had upgraded features like a tougher gearbox brakes etc i believe) The gearboxes are crap. Especially those brass...
Hmm, our posts kinda crossed, i.e. as usual I didn't read to the end of the thread. Don't you have just one window with a mossie net on? We do, so we can open just that during the night. After doing like you.
