Hi everyone,

I don’t suppose anyone in or around oxford has a gasket going spare for a zenith carb.

Took mine apart for a fuelling issue and as one would expect the gasket was shot and needs replacing. Obviously due to being so close to Xmas I won’t get one from the internet this side of Christmas.

Thanks,

Dan

Use some think brown paper or thin card (cereal boxes work well) and a ball pein hammer, this video shows the idea but he's using the wrong end of the hammer, the flat end leaves marks because of the corners. Do a couple of holes first and drop some bolts in to hold it, stick it in place with some grease while you work. It will take half an hour to do one gasket but it will be done and working the same day. This was one of the things we had to learn to become licenced to repair aircraft gas turbines, never needed it then but its come in very handy for everything else. There's was big emphasis in aviation in making your own repairs as aircraft tended to break down in the middle of nowhere and the assumption was that it could be your only way home so you'd better fix it with what you have. How things have changed, now they fly in a spare on 24hr notice, A colleuge from those days has just retired after making a very good career out of being a flight engineer on frieghters who could also do the repairs on the ground, he's got a very nice Ferrari so these skills still have some value.
