Hi all in relation to my earlier thread of "ace issues" the disco went in for an overall health check, the following was noted :

1. Oil leak from rocker cover gaskets - New gaskets £2.55 to £10 each plus your time;
2. Coolant leak from throttle body Housing - albeit this is wery old staining ? - Check pipes for good seal, replace any old jubilee clips;
3. plenum foam split ?? - isn't that the foam that goes the full width of the engine bay to keep debris out of the heater?
4. Viscous hub split ? - Is this relating to the viscous cooling fan? - If it is a new one is £41.05;
5. Coolant leak from radiator - Check hoses and clips, new rad is £165
6. Oil leak from valley gasket
7. Rear axle pinion leaking - new seal is about £5;
8. Bearing / bush on front ace damaged - knocking - this could be an arb bush approx £5
9. Front ace ram leaking - knocking - If it's the ram leaking, it might be the time to consider replacing the system with std arb's all round; approx £200
10. Replace discs and pads all round - approx £100
11. Misfire - plugs / leads / coil packs ?? - new plugs and leads £70
12 . Replace all tyres - Depends what you want fitted but around £500 will get you a quality set of 4

This was carried out at my local overland specialist, with the exception of the ace I think I can do the jobs as a project other than the ace and maybe the valley gasket, I'm not sure.

So here's my dilemma - the disco is in really nice condition and the garage quoted me circa £1600 plus vat to sort so do I sell it as spares or repairs or plunge in and do as much as I can and leave the specialist work to the pro's ??

Opinions would be greatly received :-(

All price are ex vat from Paddocks, plus your own time of course.

Wow thanks for that :) do you mean replace the ace with anti roll bar setup ?

Yes what I meant was to remove the ACE system completely and sell off the bits on Ebay, particularly the valve block & pump. You will need to tell the BCU that you are no longer running ACE or you'll get error lights.

This could/should generate enough cash to fund the purchase of the std anti-roll bars and associated bits.

Use the search function on here for "removing the ACE system".

Ok, I'm going to assess the condition of the ACE pipework before I make a decision on whether I keep or get rid of ACE. I like the idea of ACE a lot and it would be a shame to get rid of it.

Thanks to everyone who's contributed to my dilemma and after researching the parts needed, I can get the lot excluding tyres and ACE for less than £250, which is a far cry from Dick Turpin and his galant followers !!
